One of the exciting new Whiskydudes releases. Definitely one of the better fettercairn bottlings out there.
    • Nose
Big nose. Very buttery. Cream butter cookies, loads of vanilla and caramel fudge. Sugared banana candy and peach. This is quite a pleasant candystore. Small downside is the presence of alcohol to be fair, but this is never so disturbing that it it spoils the fun. You just have to work your way around it a little bit. With water more citrusy sweet&sour flavors are released.
    • Taste
This is a very interesting taste! Again very creamy and buttery. Vanilla custard cake is the first thing that comes through my mind. Definitely a dominating flavor here but it’s certainly not everything. Again quite some sweet candylike flavors. I get hints of peach, gummy bears, some winegum sourness and there is also a whiff of white pepper. The alcohol also is quite present. This one can handle water like a champ. It doesn’t compromise the nose but it does add a lot to the accessibility of the dram. Less alcoholic, more enjoyable.
    • Finish
In the finish some dry cask influence breaks through with mild spices like licorice and vanilla. Also Belgian waffles is what passes through my mind. That typical sweet sugared dough kind of flavor, loaded with vanilla and in a fluffy substance.

You have to like very outspoken bourbon maturations, but if you do this is quite a stunner.

Like the Miltonduff of the same bottler, this Fettercairn is very much dominated by the cask. The nose is the best part of the experience - but I imagine that will only be the case if you actually like bourbon because that's the only thing I smell. I personally liked it anyway. The palate starts off well with bourbon notes and spices but then quickly turns rather earthy and bitter, which continues into the finish.

Fettercairn will never become my favourite distillery, though this one is pretty ok. The nose and taste are quite solid, especially with a few drops of water and some time, but I don't particularly like the finish.
    • Nose

Starts off only mildly sweet and fruity, a little honey and mainly citrus fruits like lemon and bitter orange. Eventually it really opens up with added vanilla cake and a clear peach note shining through. Furthermore faint moldy nuttiness (walnuts) and some sawdust at the back.
    • Taste
      85 85
More fruity and sweeter than the nose, much more involvement of the alcohol. Pretty creamy and oily, honey, vanilla, peach, apricot, sweet apple, slight citrus, clear pepperiness and some dry wood spice.
    • Finish
      78 78
Medium length: short sweetness shifting to quite some woodsappy bitterness (which I have also come across in other Fettercairns at this age) and a dirty note of musty vegetation.

The nose is the richest part of this whisky, with a lot of fruits and sweetness. Overall a very solid and pleasant bourboncask whisky, not very surprising but just good.
    • Nose

Fruity, citrus, tangerine, orange. Some honey. Quite some alcohol, but not too stinging. Some peach as well, and a lot of sweet notes, sweet waffles.
    • Taste
      86 86
Pretty powerful, fruity, but more of blueberries now, winegums, less citrus than the nose. Then some orange as well.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still some power, sweet, honey, some sweet tropical fruits, and some bitterness. Middle long, wood.

Maybe not a unique flavour profile but it does strike the right chord. Proper first-fill bourbon maturation with the accompanying mouthfeel.
    • Nose
Bold notes of creamy vanilla custard with a whiff of lemon zest and tangerine, as well as a few light floral touches. Some whispers of burlap, porridge and honey too. Finally, there's a murmur of fermented wash and maybe even some menthol.
    • Taste
Creamy with a spicy arrival. The vanilla makes an encore here, accompanied by white pepper, caramel, merengue and just enough pickled lemon and sprinkles of lemon zest to keep things interesting an fairly balanced.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and a whisper of tobacco.
