  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Very nice and classic Bourbon Cask Laddie.
    • Nose
Cereals, burnt caramel, apricots, more dry than sweet on the first impression, slightly floral, minimal smoke, clearly malt, cold peach iced tea with a very light herbal tone, it becomes more lovely over time, the peach becomes clearer, also vanilla, shortbread, light chalky, it looks very dense
It was now standing in the air for a while, which makes it a bit more floral
    • Taste
Oily, creamy, very creamy, here directly sweet, peach, vanilla, malt, grain, caramel, slightly fizzy, sour, citrus, then it becomes tart, grapefruit briefly flashes, the floral notes come along, good mouthfeel
    • Finish
A bit of dirt on the back, now a lot of oak, dry, chewed fruit bowl, tart citrus notes, the mouth is slightly covered, you can feel the alcohol strength in the mouth afterwards

    Oily texture, delicious without water
    • Nose
      88 88
Vanilla, pastries, subtle cheese balls with green apple, sweet notes of honey
    • Taste
      87 87
A bit snappy at first, alcoholic notes combine with spice, hazelnuts and vanilla, maritime notes.
The second sip is much more pleasant. Probably due to the alcohol strength. Sweet notes towards honey and mango come through. Rounded off by pastry notes.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium-length finish, liquorice, mango, the vanilla and pastry notes remain.

    Tasting notes from Jim McEwan:

Colour - Brilliant luminous clover honey
Body Medium & satiny smooth due to non chill filtration. The natural oils from the oak & the barley give a mouthfeel that is both smooth and succulent.

Nose & Palate Opens on newly cut barley fresh from the field, followed by a hint of lemon grass & coastal flowers, sea pinks, clover and Marigold. Then the mellow nuttiness of the oak drifts in with just a hint of the bourbon spicy notes you always find in a cask filled with malt whisky for the first time and it works brilliantly with unpeated Brookie. On the palate it’s the flavour of toasted barley that takes the spotlight with its biscuity sweetness and hints of vanilla throughout.

Soaked by the Atlantic storms and warmed by the Gulf stream winds, the nature; cooling environment of Islay plays a huge part on the flavours you have on your palate.

It’s a spirit in its prime. All the flavours are in a Hebridean halo. Matured by the edge of the Atlantic Ocean it could have no better DNA. It’s pure Islay from the barley to the bottle. No man could ask for more.
