Whisky Reviews for Port Charlotte 2010 Df

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.15 points

  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A very clear and well balanced Port Charlotte!
    • Nose
The first thing that comes to mind is citrus, which makes it look very fresh, not that much smoke, grain, greasy, smoked bacon, caramel, Ovaltine, maritime, has a bit of a sea breeze, ice cream cone ( without ice), warmed the smoke comes through more clearly, slightly scratchy, as if you were standing too close to the campfire and the wind was turning in your direction, vanilla, definitely creamy, sweetness is there, but not dominant
    • Taste
Oily, almost chewable, vanilla, now also a lot of yellow fruit, apricot, thus sweet, caramel, slightly burnt, creamy, great mouthfeel, salty, the smoke doesn't have to hide behind all the creaminess, it is also there and clearer from the start than on the nose, then it becomes fresher, the citrus notes from the nose appear briefly
    • Finish
Ashy, creamy, a lot of vanilla at the back, still sweet apricot, slightly floral, grassy, pleasant, a bit of pencil, therefore also drier, long-lasting

Oily texture with beautiful windows on the glass. Great. Easy drinker, certainly not a high-flyer from Bruichladdich.
    • Nose
Superficially sweet and hardly any smoke. Subtle smoked pastry notes. Some pineapple with vanilla.
    • Taste
Chilli, subtle smoke, wood, pastry notes, green apple.
    • Finish
Medium-long finish with honey, chilli and smoke.

    Tasting notes from Jim McEwan:

    Colour - August Barley Fields

Aromas & Flavours - Brilliant Islay opening with the peat smoke combining beautifully with charred oak staves. Throw in some Atlantic surf and storm shredded seaweed. Sprinkle on Heather in bloom and mellow bourbon oak then you get the aroma of freshly baked scones. A drizzle of wild honey, a squeeze of lemon, charred oak, caramelised sugar, succulent soft fruits like peach and pear, floral hints of Daffodil and Lily and add a drift of Atlantic coastal winds, Islay grown barley & genuine Island distillers and finally, time and patience.

It’s that easy but have a dram or two before you make your own.
