I'm not a huge fan of bourbon barrels, but I often do quite well with smoke, which is a prime example of this. Great.
    • Nose
very exciting, very fresh, very floral, I like it very much, contrary to my preferences, the smoke is there, but does not falsify the overall very light impression, slightly maritime, vanilla as overtone, very clearly fresh malt is flashing up, so really the grains , right after malting, light sweetness, citrus, subtle caramel, a hint of banana milk when I almost wanted to start drinking
    • Taste
ui, sweet, seldom experienced such a sweet and pleasant start at an Octomore, great, also here the banana but clearer, vanilla, clear smoke, yes the Octomore lives up to its name, great mouthfeel, super clear, straight ahead
    • Finish
dry mouthfeel, creamy, slightly chalky, yellow fruit, apricot, slight sweetness still on the palate, ashy, beautiful

Oily texture with great windows on the glass.
    • Nose
      88 88
Smoke, with green apple rings, in the background vanilla with light metallic notes, but not intrusive.
    • Taste
      88 88
Smoked chilli with wood in vanilla fudge, with cookies and chocolate with caramel and pineapple.
    • Finish
      90 90
Smoke stays on the tongue for a long time, a little furry with a sweet chilli explosion on the tongue. The tingling remains present for a long time. I really like it at this point!

    Tasting notes from Jim McEwan:

Body - Assertive with understated power

Aromas & Flavours - Opens on a super fresh salty sea breeze and on the slipstream the peat smoke lingers like storm clouds on the Atlantic Horizon. It’s pure West Coast DNA shines like a beacon on a stormy night. At once graceful and strong this blockbuster delivers on all fronts. I recommend just a wee drop of water to release the spicy overture of bourbon, the first occupant of the cask.
On the palate the maltiness, nuttiness, pepper & lemon honey, sea spray, burning Heather and sheltering quietly are beautiful coastal overtures of sea pinks, Riverbank Marigolds, wild mint & Islay grown barley sweet & smoky. For this young Warrior the time is right. No restraints, no looking back at 7 years in solidarity, the Islay spirit drives it to run free embracing all who have the pleasure of its company.
When will we see the likes again!
