In the autumn of last year, I led the masterclass Glenallachie at the Czech Whisky Festival, which took place untraditionally at this time. I provided 5 tasting notes within it and in the end I also allowed myself to evaluate and organize them. Before that, I finally tasted them more than half a year after the tasting. It was a 10 cl sample, so there was more than enough material.

    Undiluted turned out as follows:
    1. Glenallachie 11yo Grattamacco Wine Finish (WB182506)
    2. Glenallachie 30yo (WB176604)
    3. Glenallachie 13yo Rioja Wine Finish (WB182508)
    4. Glenallachie 11yo Port Wood Finish (WB152144)
    5. Glenallachie 12yo Sauternes Wine Finish (WB182507)

After subsequent dilution with water, the order was slightly changed to:
    1. Glenallachie 30yo (WB176604)
    2. Glenallachie 11yo Grattamacco Wine Finish (WB182506)
    3. Glenallachie 13yo Rioja Wine Finish (WB182508)
    4. Glenallachie 12yo Sauternes Wine Finish (WB182507)
    5. Glenallachie 11yo Port Wood Finish (WB152144)

It was not my first masterclass Glenallachie and I have tasted more than enough samples from this distillery. With few exceptions, I was not very interested. For this reason, I was very pleasantly surprised by the 11yo Grattamacco Wine Finish, which was simply significantly different from the others. Along with 21yo (WB168872) and 1989 Cask No. 6121 (WB161721) probably the only one from the production of this distillery, for which I could imagine buying the whole bottle.

Immediately after receiving the sample, I was not very excited about this 30yo. Now, after more than half a year, the impression is a little better, but it's still not goddamn enthusiasm. Now I can smell a lot of chocolate and poppy in terms of aroma and taste.
    • Nose
Dried dates, dark chocolate, furniture polish, dried figs, cane sugar, Maggi, Belgian pralines, raisins, poppy seed filling buns and chocolate with poppy seeds.

After adding water: vanilla, soap, pineapple and green coffee.
    • Taste
Dark chocolate, cherries, cherry liqueur, strawberry jam, artificial flavors of fruit candies, blackberries, orange peel, dried dates, green poppies and green coffee.

After adding water: Mentos candies, menthol chewing gum, dried banana and rhubarb.
    • Finish
Waxy similar to Mentos candies, slightly tannins, cherry stone, slightly woody and hazelnut.

After adding water: menthol freshness, even more waxiness, nectarine, slightly peppery, cinnamon and unripe banana.

I had quite high (possibly high) expectations for this whisky. I must say that, contrary to the opinion of most of my acquaintances, he did not make such an impression on me.
    • Nose
Ink, Georgian grape marshmallow, a little musty. Old Soviet cough syrup, an old soldier's belt and my grandfather's harness with the corresponding smell of that leather and gun oil.
    • Taste
Sweet, luscious, industrial, technical. Free candy, lollipops, which are on the racks in car centers, airport departure areas and other public places.
    • Finish
A bit like bourbon with its caramel tones. But overall, technical, short-lived and lusciously sweet.

    • Nose
Nose: the aroma of tanned leather predominates (my friend is engaged in the production of shoes, so this is the smell in the cut - a mixture of leather and paint for leather), sweet figs / dates / dark raisins 23
    • Taste
Taste: mild sweet (not sugary), caramelized sugar, cinnamon bun, nut delight, tapered tang on the tip of the tongue 23
    • Finish
Lasting aftertaste, sweet syrup, oriental sweets, and chemical notes on exhalation 23

Beautiful sherry malt that knows how to convince with notes of chocolate raisins, espresso, leather and fully ripe figs. Finally a really coherent and not overlaid sherry time.
Really nice part! Unfortunately a mega hype malt that cost 550 € in the release, but hardly reached a customer at the price.

Finally, the Glenallachie 30yo. Far out of reach at release and at prices I would never pay anyway. So I cherished the sample I obtained. Thanks R.! Let’s get on with it. Sweet prune juice, Mon Chéri chocolates, tobacco leaves, leather, mashed blueberries, some orange zest here and there, squeezed sour red berries, caramel sweets, hazelnut pasta and some of those green menthol sweets (albeit a bit feint). So this is a great whisky and perhaps worth it’s release price, but not nowadays €2k+ madness. All in all, it’s complex, very tasty and really gives you something.

Outstanding whisky. Deepness, balance, rich, power... No words
I'm not a fun of sherry bomb, but this is very very good stuff. Something like old macallans bottles. Very impresset, thank you Glenallachie.
Thank to my friend for sample.

Very dark color. Downright ruby red with purple accents. Surprisingly rare for this distillery, age and barrels.
    • Nose
      91 91
Full, volatile and intense. Lots of sweet, dark fruits. Dates. Extremely sweet prunes and dark raisins. Extract of these fruits. After time, sweet and slightly sour fresh dark and red fruits. Blackberries, blueberries, black cherries. Caramel. On the other nose, he changed to a more chocolatey one. Even milk chocolate. The fruit of the orchard also came out. Apples.
    • Taste
      92 92
Sweet at first. Dessert chocolate with red fruits. Cherries, cranberries. Cocoa. Dried fruits. Sour notes. Again, dessert chocolate. Some fresh fruit from the orchard late.
    • Finish
      89 89
Dessert chocolate. Fresh touches. The fruit of the orchard. Apples. Cocoa. Medium-long finish.

Now that I have tasted the whisky twice, I increase it to 96 points. It needs a lot of air to open properly - but then for me it is one of the best whisky that I was allowed to try in my short whisky career. Unfortunately far too expensive to buy another bottle. Let's hope Batch 2 will be a bit bigger so that it will at least be affordable.

Everything you would expect from such an old sherry part. Leather, ripe prunes, honey, perfect balance and harmony, this typical one to bite into like a piece of dark caramel.
Gets better and more mature and full over time.
Minimal lovage, tobacco and chocolate. Less fruity than the young Glenallachie.
    • Taste

Wow, pure enjoyment, warm, thick, sweet, dry, mahogany, wonderfully round and soft. Pretty perfect and the mouthfeel is just amazing.

Lingers long, dark, fruity, sweet and dry.
