Tasted blind. In a lineup with other young malts, this one pops up because it noses more mature than the others, probably on account of having been aged in a warmer climate, and the finishing most likely is amplified by the climate as well. For me, the definite winner of this blind tasting set comprised of a Millstone, a Waterford, this, a Chichibu, and a Cotswolds.
    • Nose
The most mature and balanced nose of this tasting lineup. A nice dry woody, slightly cognac-y touch with hard fruit candy, dried fruit, hard caramel, and a bit of ethanol. With water, strong vanilla notes and marshmallows.
    • Taste
Strong! Dry oak meets beautifully balanced sweet wine flavors. Fruit candy. First I thought it felt a bit thin on the tongue on account of having to be well over 50% ABV, but adding water doesn't do much for it, which reveals that it must be young. It's very good for what it is, though. I could see myself buying a bottle.
    • Finish
Lovely fruity oakiness, but it's always a bit tight and nervous. With water there's quite a bit of licorice.

Barrel-strength Single cask bottled by a young private bottler.
    • Nose
Mint chocolate, sandy soil, moss, green pepper.
    • Taste
      Burning, young, alive when leveled.
    • Finish
      Long aftertaste, pepper.

I heard so many good things about Australian Whiskies but I wanted to have an IB bottle before going to the regular bottlings as I feel like cask strength gives me more aroma than the watered down bottlings. 99€ for a 3 year old whisky shocked me at first but I think this holds up very well to the Scottish competition. It is quite expensive still but hey, I like it.

You clearly get a lot of the red wine influence with this, so dark berries, red berries, and berry marmalade, also I get vanilla and cookie dough and cheesecake. This is followed by a strong oak influence and a little bit of breathmint. Wow this certainly does not smell like 3 years old but much much older.

Tastes very smooth, the oak is at the forefront but it is not dominant at all, it is accompanied by leather, berry marmalade and tobacco, very sweet but again it tastes much older than 3 years.
    • Finish
      87 87
Very good and balanced. Again the oak is at the forefront but in a very balanced way accompanied by a lot of cocoa, chocolate, vanilla/maple syrup, tobacco, nuts. Very dry and a lot of oak influence at the end but very good.

    Three years ??? ... could also be 20 ...

SMELL a powerful mixture of roasted oak, sweet plum jam and a variety of fresh berries, caramelized pears and nuts. The oak dominates the PALATE with waves of sweet crumble plum cake, then spices, then dried fruits and vanilla to repeat itself endlessly. Long, heavy, waxy, fruity, red wine-like and piquant finish.
