I like it, but the Spring 2010 release was a bit more interesting for me personally
    • Nose
pure malty / lemony with a pleasant peat taste; everything is light and lively
    • Taste
rounded to peat, slightly metallic overtone
    • Finish
complex: banana becomes peat, with a small alcoholic scale; very, very discreet vanilla, covered by pepper

Not bad at all but you can smell the youth. A drop of water made it smoother. I was at the farm in 2019 and they improve, I am fan of this distillery. But this dram, not bad but no heigh roller either.

Exceptional for his age, but absolutely he remains young.

White chocolate (vanilla), lemon, apple / pear, smoky grass and hay. Very nice.

Less strong than the nose. Thin but also soft / smooth / oily. Sweet (vanilla / mango?) With pepper. Peat. Salmiak (laurel salt mint).
    • Finish
      82 82
Short and thin. Salmiak and peat. Bit bitter.

  9. Albaron scored this whisky 85 points Specialist

Tasty, easy drinking, quite mild, but for my taste a bit overloaded with the mint, which I generally don't like
    • Nose
Lots of mint, some tingling alcohol in it, the smoke goes down a bit in the mint load, there is also a hint of lemongrass, overall very mineral and also a little grainy in the background
    • Taste
here the dry smoke comes through better and of course mint, then grain sweetness, some vanilla, very mineral, some pepper
    • Finish
the smoke passes on to the finish and here the mint and vanilla remain, plus some tannins

  10. Koalafant scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Unbelievable that a 3-year-old can be so mature.
    85/100
    • Nose
Slightly grassy but strong smoky note. Stings in the nose. Later then very subtle acacia honey
    • Taste
Honey sweet, smoky and a hefty portion of pepper. Later slightly ethereal.
    • Finish
      Medium and warm. Burns something.

notes by Dr. James Swan (Whisky Consultant)
    • Nose
Strong peaty aromas and a complex blend of pear drops, citrus and hints of mango
    • Taste
An initial sweetness is followed by peat smoke and the mixed fruits
    • Finish
The finish is long, clean and refreshing leaving hints of peat smoke and cloves

  13. KayMeertens scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

The nose is quite nice, but in the taste and finish there's an overly briny note that I don't really dig.
    • Nose
Lime, peat, gingerbread, orange and pepper. A mineral mustiness like a limestone mine.
    • Taste
Peat, brine, liquorice / salmiak, lime, salt, smoked cod and orange.
    • Finish
      Briny peat, liquorice and lime.

  15. Hans-Ludwig scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

    Color : pale yellow
Aroma : Smoke, sea air, oak and sweet fruits
Taste : a lot of smoke, pear and vanilla. Grain
Finish : short and strong - brings back the smoke.
Conclusion : Is not quite round, but how could he be after just three years. For lovers of smoky whiskys, he is already an experience and can expect great things for the next few years

  16. Ivynor scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Good islay, too monolithic and sweet.
    • Nose
Peat, plants, fat. A good minerality. A little cough syrup
    • Taste
Easy, peaty, sweet. More syrup for cough and a little oil.
    • Finish
Long, sweet, sweet. Smoke, herbs and syrup.

Despite little influence of the barrel interesting and balanced. With +10 years certainly fantastic.
    • Nose
      Cold smoke, oilskins, tar, limes.
    • Taste
Smoked fish, salt, a lot of smoke, little influence of the barrel.
    • Finish
      Smoke remains, otherwise rather short.

  19. Edwin de Lange scored this whisky 95 points Expert Senior

As expected of Kilchoman, this is a great dram, nice peaty, straightforward, clear and lots of taste. A real Islay style.

    Smoky

and malty aroma, resin, smoked salmon, olives, mint, nutmeg and ripe

melon. Vanilla sweet taste, pepper, eucalyptus, grapefruit and malt.

The colour is yellow straw and the nose is rich with lovely peat aromas and a complex mix of fruit flavors like pear and citrus. In the taste there`s  a  pleasant sweet flavor with nice notes of peat, smoke and mixed fruit. The finish is long and pure with a refreshing taste and  nice smoky notes of the peat.

  22. nijholtm scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

"This summer 2010 offering from Kilchoman is the fourth official general

release from Islay`s newest (and smallest) distillery. Where previous

releases have usually spent some time finishing in sherry casks, there`s

no indication of that this time, with the label simply stating that

this release has `aged 3 years in fresh bourbon barrels`."

  25. SpiritHall scored this whisky 86 points Member Junior

A very good 3 year old whisky. Noticeably Islay in style, less Bunnahabhain. No noticeable harsh spirit. Priced on the higher end for a 3 year old. Good presentation - sufficient marketing without going over the top.
    • Nose
Good Peaty smell with a hint of Citrus.
    • Taste
Peat, sweet creamy vanilla and then the salt/brine flavour moves forward.
    • Finish
Medium. Still salty and then charcoal. Finishes gradually with the charcoal.

  26. Willie JJ scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Kilchoman is wonderful whisky. I can hardly believe this one is so young, but then I feel that about them all.
    • Nose
Lovely layers of calomine and iodine, with some tannins and salty seashells on the beach.
    • Taste
Hugely maritime with waves of salt but its beautifully balanced by smooth vanilla.
    • Finish
The salt goes all the way to the end offering a nice interplay with the malt.

  27. Ras Mazunga scored this whisky 83 points Super Administrator

A bit raw and fierce but I like the smoked banana taste.
Smells like coals with lemon and shells.
