Whisky Reviews for Michel Couvreur Blossoming Auld Sherried

  1. Lorion scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Excellent! From the standard range Couvreurs my absolute favorite. 92 points!
    • Nose
Beguiling heavy sherry! Boiled plum jam with rising sweetness. Over time, a leather and herbal note comes along to keep the sweetness from turning into sticky. Cherries are smelling, dates and grape juice. Also some gum is to be noticed, but it decreases with increasingly intensive herbs (thyme) and nutmeg. Sometimes it gets sweeter in the nose, sometimes it is almost dry - fascinating.
    • Taste
Dreamlike mouthfeel, soft, juicy, but at the same time full and intense. Sweet and slightly dry at the same time, the leathery (?) Plum jam dominates the first few seconds, until the herbs make themselves noticeable and take the form of herbal sweets. The Nachschmecken is very fruity and kräutrig and slightly dry.
    • Finish
The taste stays long, the throat warms only briefly.

On the nose, characteristic red sherry scent and varied spices and caramelized fruits.
On the palate, candied fruits, madérisés, then a note of mentholated chocolate, then the noble wood, no alcohol put forward, it is allowed to drink alone with the sensation of sinking gently into the esophagus!
A long, tangy finish, with a surprising fruit return, and then the combination of light smoke and old wood.

Sherry very generous, dried fruit on the nose. Many nuts. Powerful and spicy just on the nose with red fruits behind. Subtle note of milk chocolate and later of tight coffee. On the palate both robust and supple, very spicy. Finale while consistent with just enough sweet. It is an extremely well done whisky but I have a hard time getting excited - considering the price. It delivers everything a good sherry whisky has to deliver. But nothing more. (But nothing less) Enthusiasm 3/5

    A classic old-school sherried whisky.
Well balanced, rich and complex with a beautiful long finish. If you
like sweet and fruity, nutty and chocolatey notes found in
old rich sherry, this dram would be a perfect choice. To be enjoyed
neat as an after-dinner or late-night whisky. Certainly a must have for
    the sherry aficionado!

I thank Frank Jerger from Whisky for Life for the sample and the photograph!

    • Nose
Deep and rich with lots of sherry, prunes, and raisins. Behind that
there's caramel coming through, mixed with herbs, lovage in particular,
and hints of damped wood in the
      back. An enticing nose!
    • Taste
Rich sherry flavours on the palate with a delicate sweet fruitiness of
dark cherries, figs and raisins. Herbal notes of lovage arrive,
      accompanied by caramel and walnut
flavours, nicely wrapped in dark chocolate and a warming spiciness
of cinnamon and slightly dry oak. Pleasantly mouthfilling!
    • Finish
The finish is gloriously long, smooth and creamy with caramel, slightly
dry herbal notes and a touch of bitter oakiness on the tail.
With water: The delicate and rich sherry flavours
still dominate on the nose when a few drops of water are added. In
addition, there is more spiciness coming through with oak and
pepper pushing the fruitiness in the background. Rich and quite
intense on the palate with a warming mix of oaky spiciness, pepper, lots
of fruity sweetness, figs and raisins in particular, and
slightly bitter dark chocolate. The finish is still long but becomes
drier towards the end with oak, herbs and lingering walnut flavours.

  5. Abadon05 scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

Really a great whisky with a certain complexity and harmony. If only not the price.
    • Nose
Dark berries, pleasant, somehow a slight smell of cheese, but does not bother. And you notice the old barrels. Very interesting and promising
    • Taste
Filling the mouth. The impressions from the nose are confirmed. Lots of dark fruits and dark chocolate or coffee.
    • Finish
dry with a certain acidity and long and intense.

Wow! What a wonderful old-school sherry monster!!

  7. Gloin scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Very sweet, very sherrylastig, immediately I have to think of Paxarette. Can I still use that in France? Wood is also very present. The whisky is delicious and dangerously pleasing, but in my opinion overpriced. For the price and the associated expectations he is too one-sided to me. Only Sherry alone is not enough. But if you are looking for something and also like sweet whisky, this is the place for you

  8. Robert Parker scored this whisky 92 points Expert Junior

After the single malt has found its way into my glass, an unbelievably pronounced sherry aroma pours into my nose. One can guess which complex flavors hide behind this extract. From minute to minute unfolds this whisky. The Malt politely asks for a little time in the glass. After half an hour, I begin intensely to nose. Conclusion: 92/100. In my rating, a part of the PLV is also included. Sure, the drop is not very cheap, but you definitely get something for your money! For sherry enthusiasts an absolute must drink. For the entry into the Michel Couvreur world certainly the cheaper Michel Couvreur Overaged Whisky is recommended.
    • Nose
The alcohol is wonderful - almost perfect - integrated. You can scrounge this whisky in deep breaths. Sherry stamped notes dominate. A pleasant, dry silkiness spreads on the mucous membranes and does not want to leave. A kind of finish already in the nose? Here for my taste the case! Dark almost overripe grapes, pickled strong raisins. The time in the glass helped the pronounced sweetness overcome the initial shyness. In addition, here is also a pronounced seasoning to find. I feel a little bit retired in August this year - Miami Playa - Spain - Me, my better half and a wonderful Pedro Ximénez Sherry on our terrace. Above all, this syrupy velvety feeling I find here again clearly.
    • Taste
First, the distinct sherry spices, an absolute candidate for cold winter evenings. Salivation flows par excellence. The raisins penetrate, sweetness of nuts is noticeable, merging into a slight bitterness, coffee beans and dark, tender bitter cacaoa notes. All in all creamy, but not a lightweight! This is a heavy, sweet drop. Perfectly integrated notes. Fill the mouth!
    • Finish
Very long finish! The pleasant bitterness, paired with the coffee beans settles on the palate. The Blossoming Auld Sherried does not just want to go, he wants to offer the connoisseur something. This drops with its great finish, which fits very well to the nose and taste, very good!

    a great, probably older Sherryfasswhisky.
    • Nose
Sherry, sweet, dark fruits, raisins, later orange peel and toffee, accompanied by oak.
    • Taste
a lot of sherry, dried fruits, oak.
    • Finish
astringent, menthol, dark chocolate, oak, but also sweetness. Beautiful bittersweet sherry finish.
