Whisky Reviews for Overaged Malt Whisky Distilled in Scotland MCo

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.65 points

  1. LeChiffre scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Exciting variant without the minimal “peat component” that is otherwise typical for overaged - it looks a bit “cleaner”. So for everyone who is bothered by the peat in the Overaged maybe the right bottling. I like it very much, even if I prefer the "normal" Overaged in comparison, as it looks a bit more complex and idiosyncratic with the smoke. Let's see how it develops, currently 88 points.
    • Nose
      88 88
intense spicy sherry note; dark fruits; Blackberries; dark cherries; Grapes; Raisins; Dates; Brown sugar; delicate spicy wood notes; some leather; Alcohol is well integrated; becomes fruity-sweeter over time in the glass
    • Taste
      88 88
sweet; spicy; Dried fruits; ripe dark fruits; Raisins; Plums; Grapes; some sweet tobacco; in addition a wonderfully integrated fine, tangy tingling oak spice; leather comes up towards the finish
    • Finish
      89 89
peppery-spicy; sweet; Dried fruits; beautiful leather note emerges; delicate wood spice - moldy old wood (with slightly bitter notes)

He has a very intense sherry nose,
    very vigorous, old, ripe.
But the wood is not neglected,
also looks old, with a slight bitterness,
like chewing on the wood ...

It has a very sophisticated note.
Something in the background that I can't quite grasp.
    Really good.
    Really strong.

The finish is extremely long and very aromatic.
    Great part!

very nice malt. Nice ripening and a great aroma profile, I like that very much
    • Nose
spicy with a lot of sherry in the beginning, lots of dried fruits, some leather, orange, dark berries, nice wood note. A subtle sweetness resonates.
    • Taste
nice fruity strong start, intense sherry notes, again subtly sweet, lots of berries, citrus fruits, oak, also here later some leather again
    • Finish
nice, strong, spicy fruity finish, very intense in the aromas, some leather and a bit tart towards the end

  5. Saftkenner scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Smoother and slightly more elegant than the Overaged vintages with the otherwise light, but quite special-looking smoke component, precisely because the Couvreur-typical, slightly musty cellar note, which I otherwise like, is much less pronounced. No sulfur is perceptible here either.
Overall, a nice and exciting experiment. More often! I just wish there would be a more frequent, or alternating, peated and unpeated version, which in the future could be left standing next to each other in the closet and always bought later.
    • Nose
      89 89
Very nice, nutty and slightly tart and sour sherry note, of course less heavy than with Blossoming, but still very powerful and elegant at the same time. Orange, cherry, chocolate, nice sherry flavor - reminds me a bit of the house style of Glenfarclas.
Even more pleasing and sweeter at hand temperature with strawberries and ripe, fresh plums. To put it in.
    • Taste
      89 89
Strong and voluminous. As usual, no thinning is necessary. The alcohol is very well integrated and in this regard it is hard to believe that we are dealing with a proud 52%. Dark red grape, blackberry, cherry, raspberry, spicy European oak, red pepper, light lemon, light chocolate with a little salt.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length. Walnut, cherry and orange remain in the mouth and throat. In addition, nice oak spice with raspberry and honey.

Oloroso full in the nose. Orange, nut. Full of sherry on the palate. More like PX. Not overloaded at all, little fruit, sweetness.

    Special feature of this bottling:
This filling from the first batch of 2021 ("20210026") of Overaged in Natural Strength was completely filled without the minimal “peaty” component (about 2-3% of the batch).
