  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Definitely a very nice whisky, but in this case I think the 2.2 from the bourbon barrel is a bit better, which is rather unusual for me.
    • Nose
Starts sour and spicy, pine needle smoke, has something like pine needles, when you close your eyes you have the feeling you are sitting in a forest clearing by the campfire, smoked bacon, caramel, chocolate, rather dry, a little Hanuta waffle, this note of burnt caramel plus smoked bacon always appears once again really intense, then again and again very creamy, after the first sip I also have the slightly sweet herbal tea note in the nose, overall a bit fresher now
    • Taste
Oily, massive chocolate in the beginning, smoke, medium strong, some red fruit, cherry, somehow I didn't have that in the nose at all, creamy, rather dry again, greasy, caramel, more fruity than in the nose, good mouthfeel
    • Finish
very fruity finish, ashy dry smoke, now slightly grassy, with a slight sweetness, almost like a sweet thin herbal tea, pleasant, you like to lean back

Oily texture with great windows in the glass. That speaks for the quality of the whisky. The wine barrel has a strong start on the nose.

Dark berries rolled in smoked ham. In addition, notes of grain, liquorice and dark chocolate.
    • Taste
      89 89
Smoke, blackberries, lots of sweet notes from honey to almonds in fudge and caramel sauce. A hint of raisins is combined with a subtle woody and spicy chilli note.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length, smoke, also here subtle chilli notes with wood and dark berries.

    Tasting notes from Jim McEwan:

Colour - Deep Golden Bronze Body

Opens beautifully on peat smoke and coastal wild flowers; Sea pinks, purple Heather, wild Lilies and Riverbank Marigolds all held beautifully in a cradle of French oak. Then the sweet crispiness of the malted barley emerges and is accompanied by lighter notes of ripe plump grapes which slipstream in on a coastal marine overture of blowing sand and crushed sea shells. Add a splash of water and it changes in a heartbeat to notes and flavours off Turkish delight all cocooned in a cradle of oak, smoke and sea spray. At once graceful and brawny, it’s mind boggling as the wine influence tries valiantly to tame the west coast Islander born of the sea with its smoky character. After withstanding the storm the succulent sweetness of the Grand Cru wine emerges beautifully like a sunrise after the storm bringing a sophistication and serenity to the senses. Its beauty and the beast and there are no losers; The finish is long and lingering with the palate swinging into Louie Armstrongs ‘What a wonderful world” - With this spirit in your hand it sure is.

One of my top creations for sure!
