  1. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A beautiful accessible Bowmore! Maritime and fruity. Those distinctive sweet salty malted barley flavors show themselves perfectly. It takes me back to moment I was the Bowmore kiln shortly after they dried some barley. This dram is priced very friendly and gives more then enough compared to the price you pay. The age is just under 10 years. I expect 8 or 9. The arrival on the palate is rather smooth and builds up very nice. It is a classic bourbonized Bowmore profile which works really well at CS. Definitely something I’d buy. Wishlist here it comes.

  2. SwiftyMcVeigh scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

For the price, a great, not too old whisky in Cask Strength. Very good barrel selection (ex-Bourbon). Tolerates water and then opens.

      With a little water:

Cucumber water and phenolic peat smoke. Gooseberry, kiwi and some other exotic fruits. Menthol and moss. Slight sweetness.
    • Taste
      89 89
Peat smoke, phenolic. Gooseberry, kiwi, pear and a dash of lemon. Moss. Brine. Forest floor after fresh rain. Something sweet joins it. Mineral and clear. Doesn't get spicy.
    • Finish
      90 90
Phenolic peat smoke and ash. Mint Chocolate (After Eight). Sardines and oysters. Very long.

  3. Whiskylifestyle scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Campfire smoke mixed with fresh lemons and digestive biscuits. It’s a little briny and quite maritime. Kiwi in the background. Minerals too. Later I also get green apples and pears. Then vanilla custard too and lemongrass. Sweet pastry and a hint of barley sugar.
    • Taste
Young-ish, but very nice. A touch of oats and that campfire smoke again, but actually it’s rather integrated. It’s a cask strength whisky, but it’s not as aggressive as I would have thought. A hint of vanilla. Minerals again. A pinch of sea salt. Kiwi and limes. Green apples. Followed by a sugary sweetness and a touch of white pepper.
    • Finish
mid-long with a touch of peat and fruits.

Powerful and pleasant whisky, a lot of smoky and peaty sweetness. Not very complex but certainly a steady dram.
    • Nose

Sweet smoke, powder sugar, rubber and fake leather. Some alcohol noticeable but not punching at all.
    • Taste

Initially some sal ammoniac, licorice. Quite some power, caramel sweetness, a bit drying.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still quite some power, sweet smoke, some floral notes as well. A bit drying mouthfeel, medium long finish.

I've drunk plenty of bottles of this it takes water fine and like a lot of Islay bourbon whisky water can tame it immediately but if you cover the glass for 10 minutes it comes back,
I've been able to get this for less the £45 delivered and that's great value,
This has a strong sea coast nose with citrus peat and lemon and price on the mouth and is a great value with more coming after its been open a while,
Decant the whole bottle into a jub that can pour and pour back into the bottle if your like me and will drink it in a week max,
Also for my evening glass I will pop ur a large glass and add just a few drops of water and cover for a few hours
    It does make a difference.

Citrus peat lemon Sea coast spice

A simple whisky with a good PLV. Holds in the mouth and finish what it promises in the nose.
    Should be a Caol Ila...
    • Nose
Algae and salty sea air are added to damp, grassy smoke. Lemongrass and some biscuit bring a light freshness.
    • Taste
Again grassy-smoky, but this time rather cold as ash. Some sweet lemon and a touch of menthol complete the taste.
    • Finish
In the finish, sweet and slightly vanilla biscuit, but also cold smoke and lemongrass.

  14. Loch Lochy scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Reading through the previous reviews, I can't believe this is the same whisky that I had the privilege of tasting myself.
The nose is an impertinence. With a sweetness of mash, soap and smoke. And above all, the insufficient storage time becomes clear. It was simply bottled way too young. If the taste had remained the same, I would have given this whisky just 65 points.
Luckily it gets better on the tongue then. Lots of peat smoke, a subtle sweetness and citrus notes. Simple but perfectly drinkable. However, the 58.2% are clearly noticeable. However, you can add water to this whisky without any problems, it does not lose it as a result. Perhaps a word about the distillery: This is - just my two pence - definitely not a Bowmore. Like some before me, I'm betting on a young Caol Ila.

Nose: oily, greasy, perfume note, pear, a dash of citrus, some cold smoke, mineral

Palate: Oily, bacon pear, mineral, some perfume, some cold smoke

Finish: medium length, warm, bacon pear, citrus, somewhat smoky

Rating: rock solid. Not particularly complex, but it does what it does very well: bacon pear with a dash of citrus, some cold smoke and a nice perfume note. I would most likely go for Bowmore because of the perfume note and the not so dominant smoke. Really well done for the price.

You can tell from his youth. But for the barrel strength it is surprisingly restrained on the palate. Typical Islay notes that I would most likely classify with Caol Ila. Overall, pleasant whisky with a good PLV.

Medium+ peated Bowmore at a very affordable price. Peaty arrival but also fruity. Very powerful, but in spite of the young age, the peat-smoke remains acceptable. Strong and full taste and a very long finish.

The above was my initial tasting review after I tasted a dram in the Dramtime whiskyshop.

This one requires a lot of water. And with a lot, I mean a lot! Once done, the nose really calms down and offers a warm smell of sweet and mild peat-smoke.
    • Taste
      87 87
Very strong and hardly manageable for me without water. When adding (a lot of) water, it is pretty good. Young and restless yes, but very accessible Bowmore (I heard). Salty and mildly spiced.

Long lasting finish! Strange enough, only in the finish I recognized the oily and waxy structure. Sweet peat-smoke till the very end.

As one of the oldest whisky families in Scotland, the Morrisons have had a strong presence on Islay for five generations. The name of their new whisky line Mac-Talla - which means “echo” in Gaelic - reflects exactly this close connection between the Morrison family and the famous whisky island of Islay.

This whisky reflects the island's maritime nature and has been heavily influenced by the atmosphere of the Atlantic salt that surrounds Islay. Matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and at a barrel strength of 58.2% vol. bottled.

  47. TP-Darknight scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Strong peat and the smell of campfire embers fill your nose. Fresh notes of citrus and freshly ground black pepper. On the palate a flood of peat and salty smoke, which meets a malty sweetness. The alcohol is very well integrated, the finish is clearly long with a strong peat note and spicy oak. (Expertise)
