Glenallachie 1990 Cask 6517 PX Sherry Puncheon. Only 339 bottles with a barrel strength of 51.2% were filled for the German market. I am now observing the product range that Billy Walker is gradually expanding on the market. The young single casks are all nice to good. With them, I just lack the age and maturity that this one has. 30 years in the barrel don't lie and you can just taste it. This is a first-class single malt, bottled at the ideal time, very complex, without missing notes, balanced, not too sweet, not too spicy ... and with its dark color it is also pleasing to the eye, which is known to drink with it. Of course, 500 euros is an announcement, but unfortunately you have to put that on the table these days for a whisky of this age. Everyone has to decide for himself whether he is his money. In any case, it is very exciting to be able to explore and discover such an old, noble whisky. Many thanks to Jan from MaltMatters for the sample. For my personal taste it doesn't quite come close to the Glenfarclas bottlings from 1990 (Cask 5117 or Cask 9468), but that's subjective. Still, I give him a very good 92 points. Slaintè!

The color is dark chestnut brown and offers a pure PX sherry profile. As soon as you pour it into the nosing glass, it becomes clear that a representative of the Champions League is represented here. At the beginning, the alcohol is somewhat present in the nose, not disturbing but clearly noticeable. It doesn't take long and the typical sherry aromas such as dates, dark plums, sweet raisins marinated in rum spread, wonderfully sweet and oily in character. However, the sherry does not bury everything here and leaves room for the finest wood aromas and the delicate hints of malt. A few drops of water are good for the Glenallachie. The alcoholic note mentioned at the beginning is now almost completely gone, but now I have notes of dark cherries, fine dark chocolate, coffee, old leather, resin and a very delicate touch of furniture polish. The longer you let it breathe, the more aromas come to light, a very exciting journey of discovery that everyone should probably do themselves. A very complex, interesting nose.

The Glenallachie has a lot of power on the tongue and the 51.2% pushes a lot. They carry the entire load of aromas wonderfully. The malt feels really creamy and oily in the mouth. Sherry sweetness, spices and malt offer a perfect harmony. When chewed for a long time, notes of toffee / caramel emerge, a touch of pepper offers an elegant counterpoint to the sweet notes. The second sip feels a bit sharper on the tongue, but the PX flavors fight their way back to pole position. If you breathe through your mouth (be careful not to swallow!) You experience an even more intense taste experience, which is enhanced by some herbal aromas. Very interesting, a material that is very easy to chew.

The Glenallachie stays in the mouth for a relatively long time. I would describe the finish as medium length. The salivation continues for a while. Sweetness and spice are in balance, a bit sweeter at the tip of the tongue, a bit tart and spicier further down. Then the taste impression subsides almost abruptly and one is inclined to take another sip. I would have liked a longer finish here.

I like it and I'm glad I tasted it, a sample was enough for me because I wouldn't want to pay a whole bottle at that price

I like these heavy sherry tones in the form of dates, prunes, cherries in rum. I taste a vanilla furniture polish "Mahogany" to match the color

Plums, chocolate and espresso take the unobtrusive alcohol well with them

Nose: there we are - this is an exceptional sherry nose - leather, plums, orange peel but the balance is remarkable
Palate: juicy oranges, dried fruits and again a dram to circle for hours in the mouth
Finish: long very long, very very long and dried fruits and plums remain very long on the tongue - gorgeous!

For sure this is the true winner of the night (in comparison to other cask releases) and also far away from the other 4 - if it is worth 5x the price of the rest is difficult to decide and based on your budget - Very well selected and a true sherry bomb 91/100

A striking representative of not sugary sherry malts. Classic!

A very interesting and unusual nose. Soaked apples, Greek kalamera olives. Salted caramel. Toffee. 22.5-23

Great taste. Just an explosion of ripe fruit. On the one hand, the classic sherry aging, on the other, sweet, but not at all cloying.
