Tastes differ, that is clear. But that this is my taste too! I think this is a delicious whisky!
    • Nose
The nose gives cherry pie. The old fashioned one with diamonds on top. But especially the filling. Some more tart red fruit. Blackberries? Candy cane from the fair. And wood. Tickles the nose a bit and makes me very curious about the taste,
    • Taste
Delicious mouth-filling. Despite the 57.8% alcohol, the alcohol is not disturbing. I actually like it the best when it is undiluted, while normally I don't bother with a splash of water. Not now.
with the whisky in my mouth, it is as if I was at my grandfather's and grandmother's birthday 30 years ago. Cherry pie with a cup of coffee, deliciously sweet. In the background my grandfather is smoking a pipe. About that sweet tobacco.
Those are the main flavors that I get out of.
    • Finish
The flavors linger for a while while I think about the past. Still, not everything was better then, because this bottle is now.

How to rate this? I really like it, but it doesn't actually taste much like a whisky at all. Extreme cask influence almost totally masking the distillate.

Edit: a second dram is less fruity and more on the spicy and herbal side.

It's total cask domination here, but actually pleasant on the nose. It's all fruits and tartiness, not much leather or furniture polish and only subtle nuttiness. Thick fruit smells, fruitpreserve, jam, loads of sour cherries, dark forest fruits (blackberry, blueberry) and plum. Also dark (90% cocoa) chocolate and some subtle nuttiness at the back with pecan, hazelnuts, hints of nutmeg, clear clove and some juniper berry.
    • Taste
      87 87
A creamy and buttery mouthfeel. Still sour cherries, currants, blueberries and blackberries. Blueberrie pie, cocoa butter, dark chocolate and some notes of roasted coffee and espresso. Also finally a bit of bitterish wood tannins and clove, but never matching up to the sheer fruit and chocolate attack.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fairly long: some more indistinct sourish fruits and loads of dark cocoa and coffee notes. Mildly bitter oak wood in the end.

    Krieks

Whisky Import Nederland – WIN for short – was able to secure a sherry butt that was filled with the GlenAllachie spirit in 2018 and bottled at cask strength in 2020 in their First Cask series. What a lovely color.

It must have been a very active sherry cask for there is not much left of the distillery character on the nose. That notwithstanding the nose is delicious. Dark and sweet on krieks, blackberries, rhubarb marmalade and plums. Origin chocolate and pecan nuts. Nutmeg, cloves and some furniture polish. Hint of red lace candy as well. Lovely!

Creamy, almost syrupy on the palate. Honeysweet and very spicy with lots of green notes, if you know what I mean. All kinds of berries and again some krieks (not to be confused with cherries). Cough syrup, nuts, cocoa and cloves. Hint of freshly roasted coffee and chocolate.

The very long, warm spicy finish suddenly turns very bitter from the oak, but that does not diminish the experience anymore.

This was very enjoyable. Thanks for the sample, Manny!

      Toffee, blueberry and date.
    • Taste
      85 85
Wild cherry, grenadine syrup, fig liquor, mocha, grape and white pepper. Water releases more spices, such as nutmeg.
    • Finish
      86 86
      Mocha, cherry and curry.

Nice fruity whisky, typical sherrycask notes, prunes, red fruits. Pretty powerful as well, very pleasant.
    • Nose
      87 87
Intense scent, pretty some alcohol combined with red fruits. Prunes, forest fruits. Earthy, autumn forest. Even a hint of woodsmoke.
    • Taste
      87 87
Pretty strong, intense. Red fruits, prunes, forest fruits. Cassis, winegums.
    • Finish
      86 86
Still pretty strong, redfruits, prunes, winegums, the dark red/purple ones. Middle long finish, with a warming feeling though.
