    official information:
The M&H Apex is a culmination of years of work and research that exemplifies our spirit of innovation and creativity. Driven by boldness and an aspiration to reach new heights, we composed our apex - an exclusive opportunity of limited editions.
A bottle of M&H Apex is an exploration of places and matters: our Head Distiller, Tomer Goren, specifically selects exceptional casks for each batch, chosen for their distinct location of maturation or to showcase the magic of wood and terroir.

This small batch, single malt whisky was aged in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in fortified style pomegranate wine casks for a period of six months. The unique pomegranate fruit offers this whisky Its exceptional flavors.

Non chilled filter. Natural color. 60.3% alc/vol

    AROMA
Ripe pomegranate, followed by a swirl of rich vanilla, roasted coffee and butterscotch. Strong earthiness, accompanied by notes of orris root, spearmint and freshly baked sour apple.

    PALATE
Juicy, with crushed pomegranate grains, dried figs and a bouquet of spicy-sour herbs.

    FINISH
Long and dry, with a hint of toasted oak, followed by sourdough pretzels with a side of red fruits.

First of all amazing for 3 years. But also not so exotic as to be expected from the name. Good young whisky.
    • Nose
Not so exotic in the nose at first. Malty, sweet, a little honey, plus sweet fruity aromas. Cool mint and maybe some pomegranate too.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is quite strong, tart, orange peel, barrel spiciness. Something sweet and fruity in the background. Much bitter than expected.
    • Finish
The finish is a bit tart at first, then there is a slightly artificial sweet note. In addition, a bit of tart vegetal and a little mint.

This whisky is exciting for me. With the easily recognizable pomegranate in the nose and mouth, I was able to have a new experience here with regard to whisky. I like that. I'm not even a huge fan of pomegranates as a fruit. Head Distiller Tomer Goren's experiment with the pomegranate wine barrels was a wonderful success. For such a young cask-strength whisky, it is pleasantly tame, even if a few drops of water do not harm it. A really special experience that justifies the pretty impressive consumer price of currently around € 75 for the key data. In my eyes, a very successful whisky.

Restrained a little immediately after pouring.

Without water: But then comes out quickly. Sweetish-tart. I would probably not have blindly figured out what exactly that is. But if you know (or sniff a pomegranate every now and then) then the aroma of pomegranates is easy to find. I think I can guess a touch of ripe orange. The more than 60% vol. Don't kill me. The impression on the nose is that the alcohol is well integrated. Well recognizable wine note, but at the same time with a certain lightness. A little vanilla and the spice of the oak complete what is really a great aroma for me.

With a little water: slightly sweet, only slightly bitter. Pomegranate again, but a little less intense. Instead, the spice of the barrel wood emerges a little and a light vanilla aroma is added more clearly.
    • Taste
      88 88
Without water: I'm surprised how gentle the first small sip is on the tongue in relation to the alcohol strength. A sweetish-tart note spreads paired with mild sweetness and a fine bitterness of cocoa. In addition, a restrained spiciness.

With a little water: The alcohol is now almost completely in the background. Barely tart and with a mild sweetness, a balanced, light taste spreads on my tongue.
    • Finish
      86 86
Without water: Spicy and tart. The pleasantly sweet-tart note does not last long and gives way to the subtle vanilla, which goes well with the dark chocolate, which ends the medium-long finish.

With water: less spicy and tart. Instead with a mild sweetness and shorter than without water.
