I think rum must always oppose something strong in whisky, which unfortunately is not the case here.
    • Nose
      82 82
The rum is not hidden, directly neat molasses in the nose, not as sweet as expected, more of a hint of sour, vanilla, grated orange peel, a bit like scented candle oil, fruit yoghurt, gummy bears, I never had, but after the first Mouth is the nose almost dead, nothing left there, it comes back with time
    • Taste
      83 83
creamy, very sweet here, again this tart fruity, definitely gummy, now rather peach, vanilla, really very creamy, has already strong impacts of rum, some orange, but not the sweetish fruit, but the rest of the fruit chambers on which one then chewing around forever.
    • Finish
      81 81
This almost artificially sweet acidic lingers for a long time, as if you were sucking a fruit gum, so take a bit of two, keep yourself neatly long

Basst scho says ma with us. Where there should have been a lot of dark rum, but I wonder a bit, was certainly not very long in Rumfass. Rumreifungen are so far not so mine. Had better Benriachs. 81 points
    • Nose
Oat muesli, green grated apple, honeydew melon, very sweet and not at all biting in the nose, Greek honey yoghurt.
    • Taste
a little bit biting, but then very sweet and grainy. Quickly becoming dry and bitter. Hardly fruit notes, little stimulating saliva. Second sip a bit better, some fruit with melon can now be guessed. Yes, there is something rum.
    • Finish
A touch of rum remains, nice mouthfeel. The finish I like really neat.

Nose:- Pungent and balsamic, underneath poached pear and leafy.

Palate:- Tasted sour fruits cooked with sugar and spices of cinnamon and aniseed, like an indian warm soupy dessert.

Finish:- Young spirit. Packed with spices, and hot throughout.

N: cane Sugar, vanilla, cleary some rum and fruity

T: sweet, vanillins, spicy and spirity

F: medium, warming with a spiced rum sweetness

C: not my cup of tea, but the rum gave it a funny edge

    Serge says:

    Benriach
15 yo 'Dark Rum Wood Finish' (46%,
    OB, 2006)
Colour: pale straw. Nose: fresh, buttery
and flowery at first nosing, getting
then quite milky and slightly yeasty,
with notes of yoghurt. Hints of rum
    indeed, fresh bananas… Gets
then quite grassy, with apple skins…
Nothing too special here but balance
is achieved. Pleasant but in no way
    close to most excellent ‘un-tweaked’
Benriachs on the nose. Ha, fashion!
Mouth: nice attack, very sweet and
fruity, with the expected candy sugar
    and various candied fruits (pineapple
    slices, papayas…) A little caramel
and vanilla. Finish: not very long
but balanced, maybe a little sugary.
Very simple but quite quaffable. 80
    points.

  19. recursiewhisky scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

It is an interesting single malt and again a lot different. He is a bit disappointing to me and 15 year old whisky. I miss the deep oak tones and the round mouthfeel that you can expect from a somewhat older whisky. If you told me that it is only 8 or 10 years old I would immediately believe it.
    • Nose
Toffee, spices (cinnamon, vanilla) raisins and farm boys, in the background some rum flavors (rumether), after some time the pineapple aroma dominates. There is a hint of smoke in the background.
    • Taste
Spicy and warm. Fruity notes of pineapple, apricot and green apple. Followed by light vanilla, oak and chocolate. The rum flavor is very subtle but pleasant. At the end he becomes slightly drying in the mouth.
    • Finish
Medium finish with raisins, herbs and a hint of rum and oak

  20. malthead-sven scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

The Nachreifung brings interesting notes in the aroma with it. A real rum-sting but can only taste out conditionally, like the finish best.
    • Nose
Vanilla, rose water, cloves, sweet but altogether restrained, almost no fruit, no rum, late comes some coconut, cocoa powder, mild spices
    • Taste
Spicy, here is also some rum to taste, good volume, the alcohol is well integrated
    • Finish
intense, strong, with a good length and hints of rum

    • Nose
strong, but pleasant, rum notes, juicy strong raisins, dark strong fruits, cocoa, Christmas spices, caramel vanilla
    • Taste
Caramel, again clear roasted notes, raisins, chocolate, creaminess - vanilla, quite sweet
    • Finish
      medium long and pleasantly warm

    amazing
here the aroma in the nose is clearly the best; the rum note is dominant and the other flavors are subtly in the background ... the alcohol is well integrated
    in the taste, however, nothing remains of this potpourri;
just a sugar water with an alcoholic engraving
    • Nose
immediately one of the rum jumps ...
This typical sweet rum note is very strong
Christmas stollen with rum raisins, candied orange peel and lemon sprinkled with liquid butter and powdered sugar
      almonds
    • Taste
where are all the flavors going?
What remains is a sugary sweetness, a light alcoholic touch and oak
second sip .... a little "chew" ..... the alcohol is stronger, the sugary sweetness remains and occupies the whole mouth, oak on the finish
    • Finish
      Oak and sweet syrup

For 15 years comparatively bright, the rum influence I would have liked more present. (this is more powerful, for example, with the Balvenie Cuban Selection)
    • Nose
caramel, citrus fruit, only then comes a rum note, clove, grape
    • Taste
At first glance comparatively tart, the citrus fruits appear, bitter orange, dark chocolate, then slowly sweeter, then fruity, bitter orange, dark chocolate
    • Finish
      medium long, becoming drier

Very nice whisky of a different kind. The influence of the rum is clearly perceptible and with a strong spicy note. Should you have had in the glass.
    • Nose
spicy, light sweetness, a hint of caramel with vanilla, rum raisins, some pineapple, some, some peach or apricot, a nice interplay of flavors
    • Taste
sweet, strong spicy, light tingling on the tongue, slightly oily mouthfeel
    • Finish
spicy and drier, dark rum chocolate (reminds me of the Ritter Sport Rum chocolate cubes), medium to long

  34. Wild Thing scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Is very interesting this malt, and sometimes something else.
    • Nose
Caramel, vanilla, spices and tropical fruits. Pretty sweet the whole. Above all lies a fine rum aroma, but not intrusive. A slight medical grade can be found.
    • Taste
Very spicy and warm this malt. Then, fruits such as pineapple and green apples come through, followed by some vanilla and chocolate. The rum is again very discreet. The whole thing gets slightly dry in the end.
    • Finish
Medium long, warm and spicy, it leaves with a hint of rum and a slight dryness.

The nose is sweet, clean with hints of  tropical fruit, honey and a smell of nuts(no rum!). The taste is warm, spicy, pepperish, with some vanilla, rum(not overwhelming!) and creamy(in the meaning of thick). The finish is rather powerful, fruity with nice hints of malt.

Quite long, spicy sweetness, dries up a bit but the sweet flavors predominate.

Benriach 15 Year Daruk Rum Finish has matured first in traditional American bourbon barrels and then crossed for some time to rest on dark Jamaican rum barrels. Hence the name, Dark Rum Finish.
    • Nose
Intense aromas of toffee, spices, cinnamon and a slight smell of rum.
    • Taste
A lovely palate with the flavors come back complemented with delicious flavors of barley, dark chocolate and apricot. The rum is also a lot clearer than to taste that smell is a nice addition for sure!
    • Finish
Powerful, full aftertaste of rum with spicy notes and hints

  43. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

N: chipolata pudding, exotic fruits, chocolate, rum, raisins and very creamy
T: clear, fresh, and exotic fruits again
F: medium, light fruits and citrus
    fantastic nose!

  44. HunterRomario scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

The flavor here does not keep up with the scent, this rumor has probably approached me least of all the BenRiachs, although it's definitely not a downfall in absolute terms.
    • Nose
As I did not feel at the smoky cousin of Arumaticus Fumosus of rum (probably rumous smells were covered with peat), here I find some tons of rum, the melon in rum, the cinnamon. The smell is totally cool, perhaps a bit sharper, diplomatically ruddy.
    • Taste
It works quite sharply, stupidly, and from a neotesaně, from the 15th I would expect an even fuller and more mature taste.Canded fruit.
    • Finish
The flavor does not spoil, but does not improve.

I want more out of a 15yo whisky, it's today's truth. Then maybe different wood finishes are not my thing. A unusual whisky it is, but certainly drinkable.
    • Nose
Floral. A little yeast scent, and you can smell some rumflavors from the oakfinish.
    • Taste
Vanilla, sweet fruit, caramel. The usual flavors.
    • Finish
Medium long finish, and little hint of sugar.
