The Benriach Importanticus Fumosus is part of a series of heavily peated, 12 years old Benriach whisky. This whisky has a special finish had in old Tawny Port Hodsheads barrels, vats their name due to their port smoky flavor.
    • Nose
Intense aromas of Tawny Port complemented by peat, seaweed, vanilla and spices.
    • Taste
A delicious palate of sweet peat, bog myrtle and seaweed, with hints of vanilla, citrus and wild flowers, with a clear presence of postage.
    • Finish
Long aftertaste of peat and sweet port.

Very nice Nose, Taste and finish. An allrounder! Drink it!!
    • Nose
      Blind tasting:
Like a inkbox. Oily. Loamy. Nature healing mud. Leather. Flowery. Some oak. Sweet mint. Ethereal.
Bright fruit...sour fresh apple. Little bit smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet and smoky. Soft on the tongue. Fresh. Light bubblegum flavor...so slightly fruity bubblegum
      .

Earthy. Smoke dominates the oak. This muddy is now also in the mouth.
    • Finish
Long. Mouthwatering. Little bit sharp. Smoky and sweet in balance...with little bit bubblegum, oak and mud.

Very tasty complex smoker who is different from Islay's smoker but does not have to hide from them.
    • Nose
strong sweet smoke, light village smell, the Portweinnoten are clearly present, sweet orange juice, caramel candy, wild herbs, with some time the smoke and the village back for even more caramel with vanilla, some strawberry jam with a hint of clove and a small hint of cinnamon
    • Taste
sweet, creamy, again caramel sweet, orange sweet, gets spicier with some pepper and walnut
    • Finish
long, tart chocolate pudding burned while cooking (sounds strange, but is delicious), then some herbs and behind a light leather note

Fine drop of one of my favorite distilleries. The smoky ones are all very well done. Grade: 2+
    • Nose
Beautiful cold camp fresh smoke, a beautiful sweet. If you leave it longer, the smoke disappears and the sweetness stays. Nice portnotes and pleasantly harmonious.
    • Taste
Soft, fruity and pleasant in the mouth. Perfect drinking strength. Some orange and a hint of ash are also found in the mouth. A few grapes get lost.
    • Finish
      Nice long and harmonious.

    • Taste

    • Finish
medium, slightly bitter (oak, almonds), spicy (leather)

At first I did not like this whisky at all, but the more time I spent with it during a blind tasting the more I liked it.
    • Nose
Warming, clearly dominated by notes of cow stable at first nosing. Aromas of peat, creosote and there is also something winey and sweet, reminding of blackberries. Hints of bitter almonds as well. Although I do not really like port or wine finished whiskies, I must admit that the smell is nice and pleasant - but you must like cow stable :))
    • Taste
Rich and bold, dominated by notes of peat, creosote and camphor. Some concentrated tea extract is there as well. The presence of wine or port is quite obvious. I am a peat-lover and I really enjoy it - very good.
    • Finish
Long and smoky on notes of creosote and camphor. Some bitter oak and concentrated tea extract is coming up towards the end but nevertheless the finish is very good.

A nice peaty Speysider, fors ure, but I prefer the sherry finish.
    • Nose
The sweet fruit is definitely there, but is completely pushed away by notes of earth and peat. I am instantly reminded of cow-hide. It is very creamy and somewhat meaty. A leaf of eucalyptus. If I did not know better, I would dare say I smell tomato soup with meatballs. A little odd.
    • Taste
On the palate it is also very creamy and heavily spiced (black peper and cloves). Bittersweet orange peel and red berries. A touch of mint and quite a bit of smoke. Very punchy, indeed.
    • Finish
The medium long finish is very smoky.
