it's quite industrial nose and palate for me and never enjoyed at all. Cask influenced notes stuck in the background. Two dimension whisky, polish and juicy.
    • Nose
      82 82
Nail polish, acetone, glue, varnish, shoe polish, tape, and metallic industrial aromas followed by alcholic parfumery fragrances. Soft juicy red fruits and cotton candy.
    • Taste
      83 83
similar to nose, very metallic, glue oriented. It's feel like drinking 1 bottle nail polish along with a cherry juice. Pepper, cherry stalk and red apple is nice.
    • Finish
      82 82
It's woody and spicy even enjoyable with a little bit walnuts but after taste completely destroyed by metallic acrid taste, it's wine sulphur or mortlach distillery character.

Somehow it leaves me unsatisfied. Yes, nice, drinkable, but somehow a lot more would be possible. Nothing really outstanding and even if only briefly, the bottom line is simply too many missing notes.

    Notes from a blind tasting.

I would have come to Mortlach as the very last one.
    • Nose
      81 81
Mainly menthol right after pouring, red berries try to get through behind it. The menthol note disappears quickly, a clear acidity comes to the fore and herbs are present. After a while, the red fruits are very clear and everything else is more subtle. First heats biscuits, then currant juice. Overall pretty shy. In all stages, strange chemical smells emerge from time to time.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet and strong in the beginning, also here red fruits, creamy mouthfeel. In addition, a good bunch of herbs, but also something slightly soapy.
    • Finish
      83 83
The finish is short to medium long, warms up a lot and dries slightly in the process.

    a complex malt
is not a malt that you drink on the side
in time the nose becomes fine
    • Nose
Tobacco decreases, sweet and tart berries alternate, slightly glue (eagle owl / Pattex), sweetness increases, beetroot + solvent
with water: earthy, red currant, banana + glue

from the 1920s: more solvent, a basket made of reed or bast, a note that I cannot name
with water: sweet berries, artificial leather, earthy
    • Taste
      full, oily, sticky
tart berries, tart notes, minimal oak, spicy, slightly espresso, slightly rotten eggs, the alcohol tingles a bit, gravy

with water: soft, light sulfur, gum, salmiak pastille
    • Finish
      medium long
      tart, spicy, (tart) raspberry, sparkling

with water: raspberry, light coffee, light sulfur, chocolate ~ 65% + nut + ??

It's so delightfull, when your love for a specific distillery gets validated over and over ;-).

This one could be one of my memorable mentions for 2021 and its only february.
    Price/Performance ratio is noteworthy.

Nose: fruity plus the sour mortlach character.
Mouth: punch because of %, dry, peppery, short "huff" of a christmas market that turns into a more vibrant red fruit (cherry maybe)
Finish: I would say medium, first sip it was more like "oh, gone already how sad" but after a while I could still detect small hints... so it drops quite sharp but remains quite a while on a low level.
