Glenallachie 25 years, 48%, aged in PX and Oloroso sherry casks. Meanwhile, after the 2018 edition under Billy Walker, the second trick. And I like it a lot better than the first one. The color alone impresses the 25 with a very dark color that many connoisseurs should like. Both in the nose and on the tongue, the sweet notes from the sherry casks dominate, but the influences of the cask can also become noticeable with increasing duration. The 48% are very, very good for the Glenallachie. They carry the aromas extremely elegantly and are not annoying at any moment, on the contrary. Many fans would also like this drinking strength for example with a 25 Glenfarclas. This can absolutely convince in the nose, but then weakens in the mouth, which the Glenallachie does not. This in turn is almost three times as expensive. Still a recommendation? Yes, in any case! After the 1989 from the 50th Anniversanry Edition, the 25 Glenallachie 2020 is the best Glenallachie I've had in my glass so far. The only interesting thing would be a comparison to the 21 batch 1 in barrel strength, which unfortunately is now in an even higher league in terms of price. I gave the Glenallachie 25 from 2020 a clear recommendation and a strong 92 points. Slaintè!
    • Nose
The color is dark mahogany and a bewitching scent of sherry exudes as soon as it is poured. Anyone who has already had a few bottlings of these distillers in the glass immediately notices: THAT is a Glenallachie. The sweet nose typical of this distillery is a delight from the first glance. Dark plums, pickled raisins, nuts, chocolate, brittle etc. The combination of PX and Oloroso sherry barrels seems to have been very successful. Over time, light spicy notes of oak are added. It would be bad if you didn't notice anything after 25 years, i.e. a quarter of a century (as the product description so beautifully says). These spicy notes are very discreet in the background. The massive sweetness dominates in all areas. The 48% suit the Glenallachie very well. These are very well integrated and one would also like them to be at the 25 Glenfarclas, for example.
    • Taste
The sweet notes from the nosing continue to impress on the tongue. The 48% now push a little more than one might have suspected in the nose. Plums, sultanas are very present again, followed by a subtle note of a subtle pineapple. The much-described Christmas cake sends its regards, echoes of dark chocolate become more noticeable. The longer you chew the 25 Glenallachie, the more you discover over time. The motto here also applies: the sweetness is enthroned above everything, but the woody notes come into their own better on the tongue than on the nose. A touch of ginger and the cigar box knock. The flow of saliva is stimulated.
    • Finish
The finish is long and warm. As expected, the sweetness is present, but now comes the hour of the oak. She quickly gains the upper hand. The palate becomes drier and the tongue seems to stick to it. If you rub your tongue along the cheeks, you have the sweetness in focus again, but it becomes tart and woody in the mouth. However, this can also be the case after 25 years of barrel storage. The taste impression lasts quite a long time before it slowly evaporates.
