Torabhaig, the second legal distillery on the Isle of Skye,
brings the "Inaugural Release" onto the market in February 2021. The first bottling of the "Legacy Series" 2017 is a peated single malt.

Not a bad whisky but nothing special, even hardly worth the the retail price, perhaps if it was cask strenght? Really pathetic those people who try to sell right away for double. Remember that for this retail price you can also have an Ardbeg Uigeadail...just saying.

Calm down people, its £50 to be released globally on the 19th of February.

As it is from Skye island, I was impatient to try this one. Fresh, smoky, fruity, finely peated, but not as complex as I would like, the finish is quite fast. The bottle is a bit pricy, I would suggest that buying it is more supporting the new distillery than getting an exceptional bottle.

A special feature stands out for me in the design. The malt of the Torabhaig contains a phenol content of 50ppm. So in some cases more than some representatives from Islay and thus significantly more than the neighboring distillery on Skye. The malt only matured in bourbon casks.

Colour:
The color in the glass is partly reminiscent of a white wine. I would call them pale gold. For a boy, the whisky draws malt down the glass very slowly, creating beautiful “church windows”. So it seems to have a certain oiliness. I hope he can confirm this in his mouth.

Nose:
The first thing you notice in the nose is of course the smoke. For me, however, it is clearly different and not as engaging as from other representatives. After a very, very short time, the smoke fades into the background and I get a full fruit basket with light-colored fruits. From bananas, to pears and apples, everything is there. The banana dominates here for me. This can also be due to the fact that the malt always seems sweeter to me. Behind it herbs and, very slightly, alcohol. Reminds me a little of a young Lagavulin, even if the smoke was different here.

Taste:
Here, too, the smoke spreads first on the tongue and fills the entire oral cavity. A nice start. Then it gets sweeter. The pears and apples show up here too. Herbal candies with a hint of anise. The alcohol is palpable and slightly spicy. Here the malt cannot hide its youth. A little metallic, but not a lot because there is likely a lot of smoke to be obscured. Then the pears again.

Departure:
Is nice and long with herbal notes, spices and a light, very pleasant bitterness.

Conclusion:
I think it's a very successful first release. For me it is a good, young malt that doesn't have to hide behind the competition. Can you pay the issue price for this? A resounding YES from me. If you like it smoky, wild and fruity, this is the right place. Is it worth the sometimes three-digit rates? For me here a clear NO.
