Banyuls is a French appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for a fortified apéritif or dessert wine made from old vines cultivated in terraces on the slopes of the Catalan Pyrenees in the Roussillon county of France, bordering, to the south, the Empordà wine region in Catalonia in Spain.

    distilled: 01/02/2011
    recasked: 19/12/2017
    bottled: 2020
    rrp: 99€

But the Banyuls barrel did a great job there. Banyuls, a liqueur wine, as I also had to research first. In the beginning, the Oloroso barrels come through quite well on the nose, but then the finish takes over with a fairly obvious sweetness. 8 years? You hardly notice him.
    • Nose
Raisins, dried apricots and figs, plums, almost fermented grapes. A lot of aromas come out of the glass immediately, very nice. Dark chocolate, espresso beans, some liquorice, lovage, allspice and chervil.
    • Taste
Soft and warming attack, sugary and almost sticky on the tongue. A light menthol note right from the start. Plums, raisins, dried figs, nougat and dark chocolate. Wow, this menthol note really packs a punch. Sugar beet syrup, malt, toffee.
    • Finish
Medium to long, sweet raisins and plums, dark chocolate, cold coffee. The menthol has already said goodbye, but the fruity sweetness stays on the tongue until the end.

There seems to be another batch/variation of this bottle which is currently being sold in the systembolaget in sweden which only has 53%, despite being pressumably bottled on the same date, and even having the exact same vintage as well as being recaksed on the same date.

I added the bottle to the base: ID 194083

I'm really curious to see if anyone who has tasted this one can notice a difference between the 53% and 53.2%, as in every other aspect the whiskies should be identical.
