Whisky Reviews for Springbank 1991 Lb

Would agree with KM on HIghland Park profile. A really good whisky with no flaws that just does not make 90 for me.

    5cl sample.

Not really the standard Springbank profile, but really nice nevertheless. I might have put my bets on Highland Park had this been a blind sample.

    • Nose
Orange, honey... even slightly waxy. Lime, caramel, apricot, plum, chocolate, almond and a grassy note as well. Just a little whiff of peat. Seems more mature than it is.
    • Taste
The peat, which wasn't very present in the nose, now comes forward. Milk chocolate, ash, orange, honey, plum and pepper.
    • Finish
      Peat, honey, orange and mango.

(23/25)  Balance is surprisingly good for a 50% and rather young whisky.

A good whisky, I will post a note on how it does later on in the bottle.
    • Nose
Freshly opened bottle, with letting the dram have 20 minutes of air:

( 24/25)  There is so much going on in this nose it should almost be illegal. A strong sweet syrup smell dominates, but behind that is an abundance of fruits. Tomato, Mango are the key ones, but behind that a large number of both tropical fruits, and a touch of red berries.   Occasionally I get a note of what seems to be a nutty character.
    • Taste
( 21/25) This needed some air to be brought out.  Still seems a little bland, but again sweet and nice tropical fruits.
    • Finish
( 22/ 25) In the finish the tropical fruit really comes forward along with a surprising amount of tannins from wood.  Oddly the first time wood has been apparent in this whisky.
