Kingsbarn is owned by Wemyss, which are mostly good quality when it comes to IB bottlings. Will be interesting to see what they can make of their own brew.
Thanks to karloff for the sample.

It's uncoloured and un-chill filtered, all good. So all we are missing is an age statement. Wouldn't hurt a bit if it was low.
And that it is not too expressive points to exactly that.
      Butter dough pastry.
      Sweet and light.
Cut grass "juices" with some added spice notes I can't define, but combined it kind of reminds me of lawn mower.
    • Taste
      80 80
Arrives light and sweet with faint fruit notes.
Then the spice arrives, a lot more than on the nose.
It's not on a prickly level by any means, still it totally over power the other fragile flavours.
In that way it is rather unbalanced, yet it's very easy drinkable.
    • Finish
      76 76
A flash of spice, a hint of dryness and a moments sweetness.
      It's all over rather quickly.

I hold my hands up and say yes I am a sucker for trying new distilleries. I got this one for that very reason and it was a decent price.
This is an honorable failure, well maybe failure is a bit strong.
There are green shoots in this whisky and it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

Young and light is what's going on today.
Which means there is not that much going on.
Custard cream biscuits, white pepper, a rain soaked field and some sort of confectionery.
I didn't really expect much to be honest but give it a bit more time than you would normally and there is more in there like green tea, straw bails and conference pears.
    • Taste
      78 78
Light, spicy and floral with a little shove from the 46%
Because it's young there is minimal influence from the barrel.
Lots of light fruits but the spice is really dominant.
Could be some aniseed or liquorice.
This is an easy sipper but too two dimensional.
    • Finish
      79 79
The finish is short to medium, slightly dry and slightly bitter.
The spice is tamed and it gets more fruity towards the death.

A tasty and fantasticly soft whisky. The smell reminded me of a mountain meadow, like in the beginning of 'The sound of music'
    • Nose
      Flowers, honey, meadow, banana
    • Taste
      Flowers, banana, pineapple
    • Finish
      Soft, butter

    Gentle and flexibel malt

  8. DenverbroncosDuke scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Not really convincing but extremely easy and not very complex. Doesn't hurt but won't be remembered either.
    • Nose
      82 82
Spicy, malty, banana, honey, grassy, menthol.
    • Taste
      81 81
Spicy again (ginger, chilli), wood notes, very light with a little beet syrup.
    • Finish
      80 80
Tapering off quite thinly, remaining a little minty.

One of the more (financially) accessible Fife whiskies.

Nose: immensely fruity and light, fruit syrup, a fresh bouquet of a light wine of the aperitif sort, a bit tangy but that's not surprising for such a young distillate

Taste: it no longer seems so fruity on the palate, more like astringent with citrus notes, spicy too with some new make heat and a smidgen of crisp bread

Finish: long and well balanced, lemony and spicy

For its age, this is a promising if somewhat overpriced dram. I imagine that a 10 year old Arran would taste something like this after 3 years of maturation.
