Whisky Reviews for Port Ellen 1983 DL

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

If there are some fruits in this one, it would garner a huge score for me. Alas, this is still an excellent example of a clean, precise, phenolic PE.

Pure Port Ellen in its wild, unbridled form. There's this rawness in its peat that is quite unique to this distillery. Citrusy and phenolic.
    • Taste
      90 90
Good mouthfeel. Thick and oily. A bit austere to be honest because it doesn't have much in the way of fruits, but there is a sweet grassiness component, along with some almond and macadamia nuts. The wild, phenolic peat is always in the background. No sherry detected at all. Must be a multiple filled cask, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
    • Finish
      90 90
Maritime with a salty edge. Slight pepperiness.
