Always pleasant to discover one of these dumpy black label of CA. Despite almost 40 years of bottle, the OBE is not so present
    • Nose
Interesting. Not necessarily "old", the OBE is not too present. Blond, apples, applesauce and a little honey. Very lightly soapy / fragrant without being annoying
    • Taste
More powerful. Attack slightly pungent, spicy and metallic. A little lime. Then, wood and spices take over associated with licorice. Makes more powerful than 40%
    • Finish
Quite short, spicy, soapy. Liquorice and soot too.

Nothing wrong with it bit not as good as I was expecting. I have had some excellent Cadenhead Dumpy but this is not one of the best.
    • Nose
Fruity on melon , peach and a little lemon but there are some floral notes which add to the freshness.
    • Taste
Thick viscous mouthfeel and there is also some bitterness to start with but after a few minutes there is some sweetness.

There is a little brine mixed in with toffee the fruit on the nose has disappeared a little.
    • Finish
The finish is drying and a little cardboard.

If you like it old and dirty, this could be your pick. The elements work well together and never become harsh in any way.
    • Nose
Barley, wax, hay, greasy and farmy, a bit salty, menthol and pear that later on develops towards apricot.
    • Taste
It's oily and dirty, but not becoming bitter. Salty licorice, pepper, wax, motor oil and again these livestock farm notes.
    • Finish
The finish is long and lingering, only a wee bit drying (if at all), with a confirmation of the palate. Next to this, there is a fennel note which is nice.

I always like these old Cadenhead Black Dumpy's for its time capsule whisky's from other era's with original (and extinct) flavours.
    • Nose
Very fresh. Grassiness. Orange peel. Heather. Camphor and mint. Humus. Some sootiness. A litte shampoo as well.
    • Taste
Hot and spicy. Citrus notes of lemon and lime. Granny Smith apples. Later on more on orange marmelade and grapefruit. Cedar wood. Quite complex even for its 46%
    • Finish
Medium long. Lots of pine wood and spearmint. Zesty.
