Lovely Dufftown with a nicely balanced influence of the sherry cask.
    • Nose
The nose needs a bit of time to open up. It all begins rather simple on apples and pears, but after a few moments offers a whole lot more. Coffee, jam of mirabelles and cherries, hint of milk chocolate. Then some roasted and sugared almonds and some cold tea. Hint of wet wood. Nicely balanced.
    • Taste
The arrival is very powerful and piquant, but softens up fairly quickly to offer mirabelles and cherries, but also citrus fruit. A bit zesty. The nuts are still there, but in the background. A small bitterness as if from cold tea, just like on the nose.
    • Finish
The finish is spicy and warm, fairly long on cherries and oranges with a hint of chocolate.

n: a big load of maturity and complexity! it is very fruity on apples and pears,
roasted nuts, marzipan, cafe au lait, milk chocolate. the oak is not overdoing.
        nice woody spices. herbal tea.
t: a little sharp at first when you taste it neat. more on the spicy side with chocolate
       and coffee.
with water: creamy mouth feel, rather dry, even bitter, green tea, roasted nuts,
       getting a little cardboardy,
    f: long, dry
comments: the nose was wonderful but the palate and the finish did not really
satisfy me. perhaps I have to give it a second chance!

just gave it a second try and I must say that this time it was not as bitter as last time. still it is rather dry, still a little too dry for my taste. but I go 2 points up. so 87/100

Second fill i'd say. and a damn good one.
    • Nose
Big on apples and nothing else at first. After a time you get a strong smell of dried out coffee in a cup. Then it goes on with plum marmalade, cherries and chocolate. Roasted almonds too. With water: slightly winey and the apples are back.
    • Taste
Dried plums, sweet red wine, cherries, stale black tea. Very pronounced yes, but never overpowering. This is just the perfect amount of Sherry influence. Slightly nutty, but very far away. Again a little bit of chocolate. Very good.
    • Finish
Medium long. Cherries yet again. Chocolate in the aftertaste.

The nose is much sweeter now and still there are various fruity notes. The palate now has definite Turkish Delight with an ever so slight nuttiness?

I have not had much Dufftown, my perception of Dufftown was that it made mundane whisky with not much to get excited about.
I decided to take a punt, the bottle has been open for 3 weeks.
I have to say It was a real suprise and it is really good. I would not say it was a fruit bomb but it has a fruity side and I like the Turkish delight notes.
Looking at it it appears to have a faint pink hue but I would not swear to it.

In summary this is a really good bottle and it may suprise quite a few people.
    • Nose
Rich plum, cider apples, figs, slightly perfumed, slight orange, Turkish Delight with a slight tobacco note. A really good nose.
    • Taste
Full bodied on tropical fruits, caramel, oranginess but a slight bitterness although it does not detract from the fruity profile.
    • Finish
Long, warming still with quite sweet fruity notes.

It tastes much more fruity and lighter than the Dufftown 1984 from barrel 82
    • Nose
Wood, dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, cherries, spices, nutmeg, sweetness, after some time the malt becomes flowery, meadow, bright fruits
    • Taste
Sweet. Vanilla, fruits, honey, flowers, very complex, followed by spices from the oak
    • Finish
Vanilla, long, complex and slightly spicy, malty
