fruity, ripe fruits, sweet, soft, spicy, peppery, balanced.
Pleasant flavor that unfortunately doesn't last long.
    Medium-long, mildly spicy finish.

Compared to the 10 yo there's a bit more depth in flavour and the finish.
    • Nose
      84 84
Savory and fruity, heather honey, barley sugar, grapes, unripe apple, apricot, galia melon, slight butterscotch, almonds, lacquered wood, some liqourice root in the background.
    • Taste
      84 84
Oily, sweet, malty, barley sugar, some more herbs and spices than in the nose. Apple, apricot, citrus, grape, sweet liquorice, mineral, almonds, savory and grassy, heather, green herbs and some nicely drying spiciness. Eventually this also turns slightly peppery, but less so than the 10 yo I'm tasting side by side with this.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium length: dark honey, a clear note of liquorice root, green herbs, drying wood notes and pepper.

With decreasing levels in the bottle, it became more fruity and marine

Also a little fuselage, iodine, ash, oak, a little honey and adjoining.

Pretty long, sweet caramel, a little ash, apple.

    • Nose
Grassy, vanilla, grapefruit, gummy bears, nectarine and melon.
    • Taste
Gummy bears, oak wood, honey, grapefruit, green apples, kiwi and cloves.
    • Finish
      Wood, grapefruit, dry.

I certainly don't think it's a bad whisky, but it's not really my thing.

Part of a Tobermory/Ledaig sample range share of just OB's. The last 1,5 year, I have tasted quite some Ledaig expressions. But only 2 Tobermory samples. Time to explore the unpeated side of this great distillery.

Strange, or maybe funny; this reminds me of Loch Lomond. Grass, hay, vanilla and green fruit; slightly less outspoken though.
    • Taste
      86 86
Bottled with the typical Tobermory distillery mark of 46,3% abv. A good strength imho for standard OB bottlings. Coastal flavors; salty, mild pepper and sharpness. Oily and waxy structure. Quite nice actually! Obviously less earthy and dirty compared to the peated brother.
    • Finish
      86 86
Very long finish. Flavors of the taste continue in the finish.

This is probably my favorite bourbon cask "entry level" scotch. Have always loved Toby/Ledaig and felt this was a hidden gem. So long as I can find under $50 no reason not to have it on hand!
    • Nose
      85 85
Honey, barley sweetness, heather and floral, honeydew melon, caramel.
    • Taste
      87 87
It's very much on par with the nose. More cereal and barley notes than on the nose. Lovely texture to this, as all the Tobermory/Ledaig bottlings. The oak keeps the sweetness balanced and you can also pick out floral/herb like tasting notes. More earthy sort of herbs like sage but i always get something different when I pour little nip of this in my glencairn.
    • Finish
      82 82
Nothing crazy here for a whisky in this class, just a pleasant ex-bourbon barrel wood spiciness alongside the fading sweetness of the malt.

I really like it. Lots of distillery character with apricot and sea water + lots of oak. It's just a shame that this whisky isn't available in cask strength.

Another boring single malt, drowned by oak. Shame because Tobermory can be very good in refill casks. not a good bottle. i would not buy again.
    • Nose

dry oak, some gorse & touch of pineapple but VERY light nose
    • Taste

      bitter, sour, aspirin. rounded mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      56 56
      so short.

Smells quite sweet on the nose, with a nice grapefruit * honey combo to start with.
There is also green apple and faint lime with a dry straw note.
The palate is a little difficult at first as the white fruit and honey are checked by what i can only describe as a dry wood note.
For 12 years old there is a lot going on, so pushing forward it settles down with the succulent fruit of apple, mango and hints of peach and apricot mixing in with the honey that has faded now and a faint spice note and possibly just a few wisps of peat, not sure if this has any peat?
The finish is pretty good with all the fruit melding and fizzing into one, this whisky has a good mouthfeel and pretty good balance.
    I ike it

    Nose: sawdust and white chocolate
Palate: Vimto and red grape juice- sherry cask is evident although slightly musty
    Finish: creamy
