- N: Fruit cake, fruit bread, slightly burned, mixed peel, red fruits, woody.
T: Drying, gentle peat, some acidity, red underripe fruits, and a little bitter wood.
With water a tremendous transformation. Slightly perfumed, much more full and rounded, sweeter with toffee, moreish, riper red fruits, some cream. A long finish with warming spices and a dryness asking for more.
Absolutely Delicious after a little time and water. This will do very well imo with time in both the open bottle and the glass.
- Not historically a fan of ‘Orkney’ whisky nor have I tried a lot, however port is my favourite cask finish/maturation and the price point was reasonable as well as Mr Watts reputation for picking interesting casks.
Nose - bacon, fat, cherries and cracking pork belly as well as some nice char.
Taste - punchy at 60% however I expect this to open with oxygen exposure, hot chilli, pepper, salt, more Smokey bacon.
Finish - short to medium, ashy.
Thoughts - good, solid cask strength whisky don’t think It will be everyone’s thing but I like it.
