Tried this whisky as part of a blind tasting called "Weird & Wonderful".

It fitted perfectly into this set-up, because I would never have recognized it as a Macallan due to the Sauternes maturation and the resulting fruity-sour vinegar notes.

    Very exciting and unusual dram!
    • Nose
Lots of sweet fruit with blackberries and plums.
But also a sour component that reminds me of balsamic vinegar or maybe even gherkins. Pushes well due to the increased alcohol.
    • Taste
plums. balsamic vinegar Rather dry. bitter almond. candied orange peel
    • Finish
      Long and warming, stays spicy.

  2. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Gold with a bit of red tint.

For me it starts with sweet wood. Then something sour comes out - sweet. Something like wine cream dessert. It really smells very creamy. Peach and a little ginger heat. There is a somewhat chemical note in the background.
With a little time in the glass, the sour citrus notes prevailed more. It's actually like apple cider vinegar.

The empty glass smells nice of vanilla and caramel.
    • Taste
Soft, sweet start. Then comes a dry, nutty bitterness. It's like walnuts. Then the wine cream becomes noticeable again and pastes the oral cavity. Honey and a slightly floral taste.
With the second sip, more vanilla and a little caramel. Now more ginger and and the peach flashes through again. But there is still such a sour, light fruit. In the direction of physalis.
    • Finish
Rather short. Subtle honey sweetness, followed by nutty bitterness.

  3. Jack McClane scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

The nose is really weird. Like cucumber pickles, onions and Riesling.
With time it developes some sweetness and wine influence - still the sour fragrance remains the strongest part of it.
On the palate a totally different picture. Winegums, strawberry jam, Sauternes sweetness and that royal distillery character of @the_macallan
Diluted you can find campino bonbons, vanilla custard, quaffable maltiness and Amerié aperitif.
The finish lingers with notes of red fruits, pleasant oak wood influence and just a tat sourness. A challenging malt that is developing a lot with water and time.

This note is from immediately after opening the bottle. I wonder if some time and oxygen will do nice things with the taste.

A strong, slightly tart sour with fruity accents.
The alcohol makes the smell a bit pungent, water softens the matter.
    • Taste

An incredibly full flavor awaits you. Very compact and strong. For me, a good splash of water was a must. This made the whisky more open, softer and, frankly, much tastier.
Without water I was not very enthusiastic, with water I was. Nice fruit. Clear sweet white wine influences.

Lingers for a while. Some wood and fruit.
