Whisky Reviews for Dailuaine 2008 CWCL

- N: creamy, white fruits, yoghurt, abv extremely present, sherbet, lemons, orange oil.
T: Initially creamy but then very quickly spicy. Much less fruit than the nose suggests, some nutmeg, clove, heavy spice reminding me of the 3/4yos that Bimber are producing. Drinks younger than 12yo. Savoury. Very little sweetness that I was expecting when compared to other Dailuaine I’ve had. Some herbal notes, a little menthol.
Reduction brings fruits forward on the nose along with Danish pastry, and a touch of marzipan. Taste is transformed with water. Spice is hugely subdued making way for that welcome sweetness and more fruit. When this fades the spice returns and ends on a savoury finish.
This Dailuaine won’t be for everyone. In fact personally I wanted it a little more rounded and fruity. But it was interesting. In my opinion water is essential and it takes it very well. Despite this sample not hitting the mark for me, it is by no means a poor whisky, and if this is your thing, you'll obviously love it. Well priced at £55-60
