    • Nose
Dried herbs, wild berry jam, blackberries, nuts, very light, rather warm smoke
    • Taste
Forest berry jam, herbs, amazingly spicy, a bit of pepper, slightly ash on the finish

A great Unnamed Highland Park, which was bottled here in the Unchillfiltered Series. I don't like the 12-year-old or the 18-year-old original bottling, but this one does a lot of things right. No heather and honey mixture, but a pretty good balance of fruitiness and HP character.

Thanks also to Totoro for the "Banana-Nutella-Crepe", which I can't get out of my head :-)

  4. Issie did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    • Nose
Very light smoke, pine needles, dried herbs, herb candy, very light sulfur, wild berry jam, apricot, tangerine

The jam covers everything else - but I think it's good here. I'm not that much of a friend of sulfur
    • Taste
Forest berry jam, apricot, herb candy, some lemon, some chocolate, very light coffee, a few nuts, very little smoke in the finish

  10. Dre73 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Good whisky, solid, pretty strong for a 46% Abv. Typical HP notes, with its subtle peaty and salty notes with a fruity touch.
    • Nose
      86 86
Pretty strong nose, quite some alcohol, spicy, pepper, a slight touch of peat. Salty, maritime. Also some fruity elements, orange, ripe fruits.
    • Taste
      85 85
Pretty powerful, pepper, pickering. Some earthy peatiness, some maritime notes, a touch of fruit.
Later on a more creamy, thick structure, whereas the alcohol takes down some gas.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still pretty some power, warming. Spicy, pepper, maritime, a little peaty, with a touch of bitterness. Middle long.

  11. LeChiffre scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Nice HP, the 46% are good for it (what the 12 and 18 QA lacks).
    • Nose
      86 86
fruity-spicy; overripe bright fruits; Apple; Apricot; Peach; some honey; Heather; Wood notes; maritime notes; aromatic fine smoke note
    • Taste
      88 88
lies pleasantly soft and slightly oily in the mouth; in addition, a nice peppery flavor gives it a lot of strength; sweet notes of honey, herbs and delicate light fruits; the initial sweetness then becomes more bitter; fine smoky note in the background
    • Finish
      87 87
peppery-spicy; bitter-tart notes; tender fruit towards grapefruit; Heather; delicate smoke

beautiful Orkney malt. A great PLV. If you like HP, you are in good hands here.
    • Nose
fruity maritime, light smoke, nice HP nose with a slightly more fruity appearance than the OA. Plums, apricots, citrus fruits, honey and slightly sweet. But the unmistakable Orkney touch is unmistakably there
    • Taste
soft and sweet in the beginning, citrus fruits and again the sherry notes. Spicy. Light smoke and the maritime notes are also evident
    • Finish
nice HP typical finish with the maritime slightly smoky notes combined with sweetness and fruit

  13. Bona scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

Much too bitter. Lack of fruitiness and balance. Almost only old bitter oak in the mouth, some sherry, some light fruit, rather weakly integrated alkali and some peaty HP filth.
Short to medium inconsequential, burnt finish.
86P for me, because the pleasure factor is missing. One notices the 14y rather negatively. Not a nice HP cask but priced "fairly". To charge more than a maximum of 50 for this would be nonsense.

You can not complain at all: you get a fantastic Orkney experience at a fair price!
    • Nose
      87 87
      Unmistakably Orkney, this unnamed orchid.
Very balanced between tartness, litoral debris and overripe orchard fruits on a cold October day.
    • Taste
      88 88
Smooth, slightly oily, surreptitiously fruity (think Ben Nevis elderflowerpower funkiness) with 'smoky brine' (if that makes sense).
    • Finish
      86 86
Long enough, with a hint of tannic green twigs and grapefruit fillets.

  18. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

With the key data of 14 years and a price below 50 euros per bottle, one can be satisfied. One should not expect disclosure, however. Moderate complexity with not optimally integrated alcohol and a too short finish allow the whisky to fit into the broad mass of the Unchillfiltered series by SV, from which it definitely does not stand out.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fruity and spicy beginning with apples and peaches. In addition, hay, malt and a floral note. Light toasted aromas. In short honey.
    • Taste
      85 85
Very briefly sweet at the beginning, then quickly changing to bitter-spicy. A little salt and a touch of smoke. Eminently spicy with hints of light fruits. The alcohol starts well integrated, but starts to burn clearly towards the back.
    • Finish
      83 83
At most, medium-length finish with roasted aromas, bitterness, some oak.

  19. Totoro scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Sureshot for HP friends. Anyone who likes 12 and/or 18 OA will experience a small (price) miracle here.

Deviates only slightly from the established recipe for success in the nose due to a few unusually present (probably due to the sherry influence) fruit notes, the rest is flawless HP happy hour.
    • Nose
      87 87
Fairly present bright fruitiness for a HP: apricot, apricot, peach, plus canned pineapple and banana Nutella crêpe. Then the holy trinity of honey, heather and smooth, aromatic peat smoke. The sherry cask is elegantly reserved, but one would not confuse this one with bourbon cask aging. If anyone knows those 10-year-old SV Un-Chillfiltered Glenlivets from (unusually light) first-fill sherry butts, the sherry influence goes in that direction. So you wonder if that was classic Oloroso or something "lighter", but there is definitely no rubber, no gunpowder in the game, no missing notes from the barrel, which can happen with such UA things. All in all, a super nice and balanced nose, well worth the money.
    • Taste
      88 88
Strike! Full load of classic HP flavors right from the start: spicy, minimally peppery, full, round and sweet (the honey again), floral-herbal, gently smoky. Tastes like the perfect cross-section between the OA 12 and 18 - just with a much-welcomed higher bottling strength of 46%.
    • Finish
      85 85
Coffee/espresso, dark chocolate, croissant with honey, the banana Nutella crèpe flashes again briefly. Long, super clean finish with the wonderful notes of heather and smoke that define HP. Sometimes a bit more "neutral" alcohol comes through and it also has more cask bitterness than the OA, so a bit of a point deduction at this point.
