Color: grain with red highlights
Nose: Wow, contrary to what you might expect from age, the 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt really comes into its own. The alcohol in the nose is also very well integrated for 61%. Nice notes of red fruits and nuts. In the background some wood and paper. Some campfire - great.
Palate: The nicely integrated alcohol gives the whisky strength and character. The Oloroso barrel left great berry fruit notes with nougat and hazelnut. With a little water, the nice smoky flavor comes to the fore.
Finish: The really long finish develops great spicy aromas and an extreme flow of saliva that makes you want more. In the finish, the peated character comes across best and fits perfectly into the overall picture.
Conclusion: A great, young whisky from the first barrels of the distillery. We can certainly expect a lot of great bottlings from the Lowlands here - I'm looking forward to it.
