Umeboshi, cherry flavoured soda, dried mandarin oranges. Still a bit mentholated after 30min+ in the glass. Sour prune drink, vanilla, smelled quite single dimensional after all. After 2h in the glass, roasted chestnuts with black sand. After a week in the bottle, it improved quite a lot. Umeboshi pu'er, much less mentholated, old leather, chenpi. Then fresh black plums, followed by citrus flesh to close out. The nosing is now 88pts, as opposed to 85 when it was first opened.

A bit early and leathery. Chocolate. Purple fresh plums, purple grapes and some other dark fruits, citrus zest, black tea with caramel and black pepper.

Honey black tea, dried plum with a bit smokiness. Then there's black plum with skin. Some tannin when the flavours faded. Clean and almost no woody bitterness.

A few years of extra cask maturation would probably benefited this Glenallachie aanstaande it is a tad sharp and young but apart from that; solid whisky. There are loads of currants, blackberry, dates, chocolate and fudge, brown sugars and molasses. Worth the money.

Oh wow, that has been matured in a very high quality PX sherry cask. Like most Glenallachie's these days, this is a sherry finish of about 2 years (re-racking at the distillery started in early 2018) but it's still carries a huge, dark-chocolate driven sherry influence. Value (£90) : 7/10
    • Nose
Initially, it is very dark and heavy with 80-90% chocolate and plenty of freshly brewed coffee. Lovely sweet dried fruits with sultanas, plums and figs. A thick creamy quality to it as well. Then the sweetness arrives with heather honey and muscovado sugar. That mineralic character that I get from Glenallachie spirit is still present. Crystallised ginger and orange peels. There’s a deep undercoat of dark almost burnt toffee and sticky raisins. Some dried tobacco notes and crushed almonds. Spicy cinnamon and black pepper bring some warmth to the nose
    • Taste
The mouthfeel is thick and viscous, almost like syrup. Again the layers of dark chocolate and coffee appear. More sweetness now with caramel toffee and muscovado sugar. Definitely rich and heavy with plenty of molasses and treacle toffee. The dried fruits return once again, now stewed with cinnamon and nutmeg with raisins and orange peels taking the lead. A mouthful of boozy Christmas cake. Almonds again but more like marzipan now. So very drinkable at cask strength.
    • Finish
The mouthfeel carries this into the finish, really sticking to the palate. Tannins come forward leaving a drying sensation on the tongue, like old leather. Now the spices come forward. Plenty of crystallised ginger and some freshly cracked black pepper. As expected, the dark chocolate and coffee notes return and carry the finish.
