Fresh apples and quite citrusy on the nose. Freshness but lots of honey and vanilla sweetness on the palate. Medium long finish with more smooth and balanced sweetness coming through. Great expression.

This is a sample courtesy of Peatbogger.
I've had Aultmores before and this is what I was expecting.
Warming and tangy, definitely more fitting for a winters night.

This smells younger than 11 years old but it's not a criticism.
There is no getting away from the apple pie that others have mentioned but this one has plenty of sugar.
      Also conference pears skin.
I also get crushed nettle and an old paint can that has just been opened for the first time in years.
    • Taste
      83 83
Again I agree it is very palatable at 54%.
Strikingly dry on first delivery, it's normally an aftertaste.
This is good but it feels like I need to add something other than water.
Bitter lemon but not to the point where I'm twisting my face.
    • Finish
      82 82
This has quite a long dry finish, so much so that I need water after it.
Still, sticky citrus notes remain to enjoy before you wash them away.

Thanks to Feorag86 for sharing the remains of a birthday bottle.
    Interesting and very easy drinkable.
    • Nose
      87 87
This is as gentle on the nose as a 40% liquid.
Full on apple pie, both the sour cooked apples and the sweet crumbly crust.
Lightly zesty raw rhubarb with a little mild herbal spice mix.
    • Taste
      89 89
Absolutely no need to add water to be enjoyed despite the 54%
      Sweet lemon.
Arriving soft with spices building slowly.
Water brings forth even more sweetness and takes the edge off the spice.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Spices last for a while.
Fading on a dry rubber tire tube note.
With water; sweeter and less dry.

    Quick hit review.

A very interesting nose with apple pie, lemon and hints of thyme. Sweet and sour, flowery and mildly spicy. Good attack on the palate, excellent mouthfeel. Citrus fruits, some dry oak and all very drinkable at cask strength. The finish is semidry, fresh and herbal, fading with lime juice, white pepper and burned rubber. Thanks to Are and Stian for picking such a nice cask for their first 'Malt for Norge', this is a great value. Looking forward to Vol. 2!
