A great malt, not a "complexity monster", but very tasty if you like balanced sweet-fruity malts, the spice / wood note is softened by the Moscatel finish, the price is for an 18-year-old Irishman in cask strength and as a single cask under the what is required for other 18 year old Irish
    • Nose
      88 88
sweet, exotic light fruits, white gummy bears, alcohol perfectly integrated, mild and balanced, a little vanilla, fruit note has a somewhat artificial effect
    • Taste
      88 88
powerful start, sweet and fruity, pleasant sharpness, no alcoholic note, becomes malty, no or hardly any wood note
    • Finish
      87 87
long, sweet at first, then pleasant spiciness, sweetness predominates, slightly numbing

Great, round and balanced malt that stays in line without slacking off. More on the fruity-sweet side with slightly bitter touches, but if you like that, this is the right place.
    I like it very much.

In the nose it is directly fruity-sweet. Lots of yellow fruits like peaches, bananas and pears. The sweetness sometimes seems slightly artificial, but then changes to a more gentle vanilla sweetness.
There is also something like maple syrup with raisins, plums and nuts. But that is more in the background and not very pronounced. There is also a slight touch of milk coffee or milk chocolate.
    • Taste
      88 88
Nice and creamy, malty with a good portion of spice and heat. But by no means alcoholic. Very well integrated! Fruity notes come together again with a nice sweetness. It looks less artificial on the palate. The fruits here are more like a mixture of yellow and dark fruits. Bananas, apricots with plums, dates and some raisins. Some toasted nuts and chocolate still come out. When the spiciness subsides, the malt has a slightly cooling effect like mint or eucalyptus candy.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long finish, oak spice and fruit remain, vanilla and a little malt finish.

Very fine on the nose with the typical Fercullen gummy bears (I also find them in the 18y standard bottling) as well as apples and yellow fruits (mirabelle plums).
Unfortunately, due to the Moscatel finish, it has a vinous note in the finish that I never warm to

    official description:

Fercullen 18 Years Moscatel, Single Malt Whisky, 54.2% Vol.,

The owners expanded the old mill building from 1890 for the Powerscourt Distillery. The production facility is housed in an imposing new building. There are three individually made, copper pot stills at the heart of the distillery. Master Distiller Noel Sweeney closely monitors the processes here. With over thirty years of experience in the Irish whisky industry, he's the right man in the right place. Master Distiller Noel Sweeney brought the whisky from his old employer. Among other things, very special barrels of 18 year old single malt

This 18 year old single cask matured in 1st fill bourbon casks and then received a two year finish in Moscatel casks. Mareike Spitzer from irish-whiskys.de chose this single barrel together with Noel Sweeney. It is the first single cask whisky bottled for Germany. A whisky that has a particularly long finish and a full and creamy taste. The whisky convinces with a complex depth, from different aromas. The notes of the Moscatel finish are clearly noticeable.

The filling is limited to 272 bottles (700ml), not colored and not chill-filtered. The whisky was bottled at cask strength.
