The finish adds a twist, it's not alcoholic, but it feels very young, it can be a few months in the wine barrel.

The smell is very good compared to a whisky of this category, the taste unfortunately not so much

"Smell hui - taste ugh" - it's not quite that banal after all. Of course it would be nice if the bitter note weren't there and if the exuberant touch of wine in particular didn't put such a dominant stamp on the whisky. I had much better integrated final wine aging in the glass. The great price structure saves this "Tamna" an acceptable overall assessment.

A positive surprise for the asking price. A dark, bitter fruitiness with a hint of citrus, followed by a dry, medium-length finish.

On the nose red wine grapes, berries, oak spices, malt, caramel and alcohol.
The palate is red wine grapes, berries, lime, oak spices, caramel and some alcohol on the finish.
This stuff is sweet but the wine grape sourness of the barrel and bitterness of the young NAS spirit keep it interesting.

The whisky is young, alcohol is not entirely integrated and especially noticable on the nose and backend. Taste is like other Tamnavulins a bit artificial (E150A) and industrial, sandblasted with a finish of a short maturation period in fresh red wine barrels.

It's a good red wine cask finished entry malt with a clear red wine grape influence. Similar to their sherry edition in quality but fresher, fruitier and more sour and assertive.

  10. Globomanni scored this whisky 77 points Expert Junior

Very fruity, full of flavor, slightly citrusy

  11. hawk31 scored this whisky 74 points Expert Senior

Still okay on the nose, but so bitter in taste and finish that this malt is not really a pleasure.

  12. dercaptain scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Significantly sweeter and fuller on the nose than its Pinot Noir colleague.

In my mouth I have the association of a red fruity chewing gum or candy. But all in all a bit weaker than the Pinot Noir

Freshly uncorked it takes time and some water.
Initially very closed on the nose, dominant oak notes. Later also grape fruitiness, red wine associations and pleasantly powerful, somewhat bitter oak spice.
On the palate then impressive with complexity and clear sensations of the Cabernet barrels, interesting.
    Good, medium-long, persistent finish.
Clearly superior to its Tempranillo brother from Tamnavulin not only in terms of price, but also in terms of complexity.
4 months after uncorking present faster, milder and much fruity, neat full of pleasure.
Uncomplicated, balanced and easy to enjoy. Nice Speyside whisky, pepped up with a Cabernet finish. Perfect PLV.
    • Nose
lots of fresh fruit (pear, red grapes and berries) oak spice with hints of ginger and yeast notes, along with sweetness with vanilla and caramel
    • Taste
round, creamy, tasty. Clear echoes of Cabernet Sauvignon. Very fruity. In addition, some almond and ginger.
    • Finish
astonishingly long, very pleasant combination of fruit, wine notes and oak spice, later becoming drier and spicier.

For the price, and for wine lovers an absolute buy recommendation.
    Taste is also beautifully complex.

    • Finish

If you give it time, it's not that bad at all.
Those who are into wine will get their money's worth here.
It's too much wine for me, and of course it's not complex for the price. But for the price, you can't go wrong either.
    • Nose
      80 80
The influence of the wine can be clearly felt and it is almost difficult for me to speak of a whisky and not a wine.
Really sour, almost fermented red grapes, you feel like a grape harvest when the grapes are pressed.
And it also looks (alcohol) heavier than it should actually be at 40%. Slightly still spices in the background.
So I like wine finishes, but that's too much wine for me here.
Minimally still a slight sweetness, very slightly still caramel.
Over time it becomes looser and apples are added. As if you were standing in front of a distillery for the first time.
      He definitely needs time.
    • Taste
      79 79
      Here, too, the wine predominates.
Hardly or no sweetness, but dry.
A little ginger, but not spicy, with very light apricots / nectarines.
    • Finish
      76 76
Short finish, a bit dry. But that's it.
A bit of oak, but rather weak.
