  1. Malinois scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Quite simple dram: nice bourbon influence with the special malty sweetness from Macduff. Less is sometimes more!

    Whiskynotes.be review:

Nose: malty / fruity with apple, vanilla and almonds. Initially there’s also a vegetal side to it, but this seems to disappear after a while. Some fresh oak. Develops further when you add a little water. Gets slightly flowery and brings out vanilla cake. A little leather. Mouth: nice body, very fruity – mainly citrus (tangerine, lemon). Cinnamon and soft pepper. A little herbal tea, which grows stronger over time. Slightly grassy towards the end. Finish: quite long and drying with spices and herbal notes.

This Macduff 25yo is a nice dram that unfolds itself in different ways if you wait long enough and add some water. It reminds me a lot (a lot!) of the Thosop bottling. If it’s not the same whisky, then it’s certainly a closely related sister cask.

  2. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Quite an interesting and pleasant mole, not too diverse, but deep, complex and well-balanced, 25 years of aging are felt both in the fragrance and in the taste / finish.
    • Nose
Clear, moist, the first nose - spicy wood, pencils Koh-i-Nor; salted grape leaves, fir, eucalyptus, camphor, wet wood - barrel, bath; new leather goods, new shoes (leather, textiles), there are few derivatives, but there is depth, the age is felt.
    • Taste
Thick, oily, sweet-lacquered with peppercorn, spicy oak, bark, nechilo bitter, but this bitterness harmoniously fits into the overall picture, burnt biscuits, burnt sugar.
    • Finish
Spicy, coarse, varnish, resin, needles, bitterly bark, camphor, eucalyptus, some dry medicinal herbs, porter.
