A full-bodied, complex and extremely aromatic sIngle malt from Tamdhu distillery. Powerful on the palate with a full load of dark dried fruit and Christmas spices, perfectly balanced by the long-lasting sweetness. You could just nose this dram for hours. Its taste promises an aroma explosion and lingers for a very long time. No addition of water is necessary. A superb single cask bottling!

I thank deinwhisky.de for the complimentary sample!

    • Nose
Delightfully dark fruit notes on the nose with raisins, blood oranges and mince pie tartlets. Accompanied by lots of sherry, dark chocolate, walnut and Christmas spices with cinnamon and nutmeg. Slightly floral tones with subtle notes of tobacco leaves in the background.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich and sweet on the palate with dark dried fruits and raisins. At the same time warming and creamy with toffee, walnut, cinnamon, oak spice and nutmeg. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. As soon as the warmth fades a little, the creamy sweetness is preserved and lingers for a long time with dark chocolate towards finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long lasting, intense, warming with creamy fruit, delicate nutty notes, slightly dry cocoa, spicy oak and a touch of tobacco leaves.

With water: More intense on the nose after the addition of a splash of water. The alcohol is more noticeable and prickles in the nose. It is accompanied by floral tones, dried fruit and distinct dark chocolate. The sweetness is lost a bit. Still strong on the palate and sweet with dried fruit and raisins. Less warming with a touch of spicy oak, cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by walnut notes, cocoa and tobacco leaves. The finish is still very long and slightly drier with spicy oak, walnut and tobacco notes.

What a sherry board! Voluminous and intense, dark sherry aromas with beguiling sweetness, hints of leather and tobacco, cherries and raisins ... A wonderful malt, only the price bothers me a little, although I don't want to start any price discussions here. I now treat myself with relish my leftover sample and fight the devil on my right shoulder, encourage the angel on my left shoulder ...

    • Nose
Creamy copper shimmers majestically in the Premium Snifter, long and oily "legs" adorn the glass wall, a really fantastic sight. Sweet blackberries play with currants and raisins, slightly musty and rotten, dried oranges and minimally roasted hazelnuts come into their own. Sour cherries with a touch of fresh menthol, creamy semi-dark chocolate and spicy wooden elements, hints of leather and sweet tobacco, bewitching caramel and creamy toffee. The nose pulls out all the stops and knows how to please!
    • Taste
In the meantime the oily "legs" are lined up next to each other at a distance of a few millimeters on the glass wall, I have rarely seen such a spectacle! Incredibly intense and dark, the first sip flows over the tongue. Creamy vineyard peaches, dark sour cherries, raisins and dates, currants and blackberries, dark chocolate with a few drops of espresso, hints of furniture polish and rotten wood slowly stimulate the flow of saliva. Spicy wood tones stick dark and tart on the palate, the alcohol draws voluminously towards the stomach, oily and greasy hazelnuts come into their own, sweet caramel ends slightly tart in dark chocolate. Creamy and fruity sweetness flashes briefly with the second sip, then another flood of dark sherry aromas is warming through the mouth, a pinch of black pepper tickles the tip of the tongue and stimulates the flow of saliva again. Incredibly creamy and intense, the taste and aftertaste blur.
    • Finish
Minimal sharpness sticks between the tongue and the palate, sour cherries and raisins play with zest of dried oranges, hazelnuts and walnuts come into their own in a nutty and creamy way, remnants of leather and tobacco stick to the cheeks, milk chocolate melts in the palate while a hint of old mint and fresh menthol mixed with dark fruits.

first of all one of the few whiskys that get better with a little water.

An unbelievable drop, the best Tamdhu I have ever drunk and also one of the best sherry whiskys. Only an old Macallan can come along here.

Tasted with a little water, diluted to about 52%. Very heavy sherry whisky.

Dark chocolate, old leather and teak in a library, dark fruit like an overripe plum. Slightly damp pipe tobacco, nuts and spices. Gingerbread hearts with cherry filling.
    • Taste
      89 89
Old leather. Dark raisins and tobacco. Old sherry. Not too cute. Dark chocolate and dark dried fruits. Spicy notes, also a little pepper. The gingerbread hearts again.
    • Finish

Dark chocolate, tobacco and dark nuts. Becomes dry, stays for a long time.

Like the sister barrel last year, this barrel is also a highlight for fans of sherry bottlings. Its aromas are a little darker than its predecessor. For me personally, the bitter notes become too dominant over time. The price also remains a point of criticism on my part.
    • Nose
Strong raisins, oranges, a little liquorice, dried plums and dates. Freshly polished leather and again the raisins. Then there is a hot chilli pepper. In the background there is still a slightly musty cellar note.
    • Taste
Dark sweetness and a warming spiciness. Malt and caramel. In addition, spicy wood notes. The raisins appear. The spice and sharpness become more intense. The mouthfeel is very creamy.
    • Finish
The dark, spicy sweetness stays in the mouth for a long time. The warmth spreads and lingers on the palate.

with water: oh yes, now there are more oranges, also a little vanilla, it goes well with a few drops of water. But not too much water, then the oak gets too much power with bitter substances, coffee and spices like cloves

Conclusion: Beautiful sherry painting with strength, endurance, complexity, a great combination of cherry and spices, possibly a little bit too out of round / too strong oak for an absolute top rating
    • Nose
      91 91
concentrated raisins, leather, pipe tobacco, sweet and yet bitter at the same time, dried prunes, plus a nice and light spicy note (clove, nutmeg and also some cinnamon, cardamom and anise), nuts, dark cherry jam, moist sawdust, fir wood, great complexity, only the alcohol is a little too strong
    • Taste
      90 90
bamm, full sherry aroma with dark sweetness, cherry, raisins, wood, but also subtle vanilla notes, the alcohol fits here
    • Finish
      89 89
long, pleasantly full sherry notes and then increasingly clear wood and spice notes, dark chocolate and pleasant bitter substances, maybe too bitter, dry on the back
