Whisky Reviews for Highland Park 2007

I normally love Highland Park SC, CS and cask aged sherry.
In this bottling, the alcohol dominates along with the spiciness. You have to love that, but for me this is a lesser one in the large series of CS, SC bottlings.

n: floral, strong, light peat, herbal
    t: strooong bud nice
    a: spicy, fruits

The high alcohol content covers almost everything. Smoke is barely noticeable. I've never had such a bad Highland Park in my glass. Even water hardly improves the whole thing, and if so only in large amounts. Then a little more flavor nuances emerge. But nothing that reminds me of Highland Park
    • Nose

Perfumed - dense floral, the alcohol stings in the nose, unfortunately not much more comes, smoke is only minimally perceptible
    • Taste
      75 75
The alcohol is massive, a bit herbal and slightly orange notes, with a lot of water it opens something, but it is also not convincing
    • Finish

      Very short, disappeared very quickly

They did good bottling this at cask strength (67.2!!% wow, yeah wow).
599 bottles so must have been a Sherry butt, but not a very active one, judging by colour and taste. If you’re really into dark sherried HP, this one is not for you.
But it makes it a very interesting Highland Park. If you like trying something different, high strength, try this. If not, go for the 18 which is superior in many aspects, and about same price.

Some light fruits, green apples, banana cake.
    • Taste

This is strong. Probably the highest ABV in my collection. Must add water.
It’s less lavender and peaty as in some other expressions but (and this is with some drops of water), quite rough. Could just be a Highlander but, it is nice. Barley. Not too much wood. I keep reaching for a sip.

As expected, this one sticks quite some time. Not too many layers here, but again, not the classic HP, imo that makes it fun.
