Batch 3 has a slightly sweeter flavor than the previous batch. On the other hand, Batch 2 could come across a bit spicier on the nose.
Overall, the two batches are very, very similar:
absolutely similar in terms of aroma, taste, aftertaste, only nuances shift here and there. Unfortunately, I don't know batch 1.
If you only want this Nc'Nean as a "drinking whisky", you can choose between batch 2 and 3 - in my opinion they are so similar that it makes no difference.
If you want to collect it, please ... there are enough (at least in German shops), Batch 4 is also currently being bottled; that makes about 20,000 bottles, so everyone should be able to get something. And the current price between 50 and 55 is 'humane' for the first release, even if that was split into several batches.
    • Nose
      87 87
Citrus-fresh aromas, tart grapefruit. Behind it powdered sugar / cotton candy sweetness.
Batch 3 is also quite floral again. The grape note from the STR wine barrel is also there.
Batch 2 seemed a bit more spicy, although Batch 3 also has spicy flavors, so they are a tad less for me.
    • Taste
      87 87
here the oak is full again. In the first few seconds there was also an umami note, but it quickly evaporated.
Again good peppery, but the taste is a little more sweet than in Batch 2.
When I exhale through my nose I now have notes of vanilla, which I didn't have in Batch 2 (?).
    • Finish
      80 80
Also quite short. The peppery (oak) spice tingles on the palate for a while.

Really promising if you take the age into consideration. Nice notes of flowers and summerly grain. Vanilla, gooseberries, peaches and other premature domestic stonefruit. Nice impression of freshly cut wood and wonderful subtle coastal influence in the background. Really skilfully and technically well done....

Hääää 3 years? hard to believe, also because it is not even in barrel strength, but still presents itself as an adult ...
I am convinced that great things are still to come. Please keep it up Annabel.

SMELL wonderful with vanilla, lemon, hay, plum cake and spicy oak. TASTE Creamy texture with vanilla, wild berries, cereals, pear jam, black tea with rock candy and chocolate. In the ABGANG gooseberry jam, flavorful with vanilla.

Another very successful 3 year old.
A lot of fruit, a little sweetness, it lacks a little strength with the second sip, very pleasant to drink, medium-long finish,
    well integrated alcohol

    Very successful for 3 years.
    • Nose
Fruity, light, the alcohol does not come to the fore.
Note of citrus, light acid note, not complex but round.
    • Taste
Easily drinkable, alcohol well integrated, fruity with a slight acidity, not heavy but not lightweight either. Has good body and structure
Already very good for 3 years—- very good for women to drink
    • Finish
      Fruity medium length, not complex

Considering it's age quite promising, but not worth the €60+ price level.
    • Nose
      84 84
Sweet and sour fruits, herbaceous, vanilla, honey, orange, lemon, gooseberry, icing sugar, pound cake, dusty young wood.
    • Taste

Quite creamy, lots of citrus, bitter orange, lemon, grapefruit, sour apple, vanilla, honey, spicy on white pepper, nutmeg and slight ginger.
    • Finish

Short (sweetness) to medium (bitterness): honey, vanilla, citrus, pepper and general wood bitters.

Promising what Nc'Nean will come-up with in the future. Curious to taste in 10y or 15y what will have happened to the casks that are maturing now in their warehouses. This is already good, clever, sweet... Missing a bit of complexity and the finish is almost non-exiting. So, thumbs up and hearts open :-)
    • Nose
      84 84
Nose isn't bad at all - full on citrus with outstanding grapefruit-aromas combined with a hint of pepper (and a touch of white spirit). There is something feisty in the nose, something sharp... Hint of herbs. Not bad!
    • Taste
      84 84
Peppery at first with herbs and oranges, hint of thyme and also a hint of lime. There are roasted nuts underneath and a bit of sweet cookies. Lovely! Woody, like young oak (reminds me a bit of oak in wine) and a hint of seaweed.
    • Finish
      72 72
Finish is ok. Hint of lime. Buttercookies, bit sandy. Dries out very quickly. But it's very very short (unfortunate). But this is a new kid on the block and it's a very young dram, so no problemo...

  9. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Lively, fine herbaceous, really nice, as a friend of old Caol Ilas, I see a lot of potential here, well balanced.
    • Nose
Pineapple and pink grapefruit, both in the form of gums, camphor and fresh ginger, cotton candy, fresh willow honey, a touch of salt flashes
    • Taste
Sparkling young pineapple still slightly green, lime peel, fr. Ginger, some powdered sugar and carbonic acid, lemongrass, eucalyptus, green apple
    • Finish
Carbon dioxide, young but tasty oak and soft malt, grapefruit peel, lemongrass, green apple, gooseberries

Easy drinking for the summer. Quite varied for the age.
    Fits.
    • Nose
      85 85
Light fruits paired with vanilla. Soft on the nose. Not particularly deep but interesting on the first nose.
Slightly few notes are to be guessed. But also malt and some straw / hay. So far something for the summer and not too complicated.
    • Taste
      83 83
The young age is more noticeable here. Lots of straw and malt. Light vanilla. Hardly any more fruity notes. Pleasant mouthfeel with light spice.
    • Finish
      83 83
A little spice and tingling remains. Medium length and slightly warm. But little deep.
I can guess another green apple and then it's gone.

    • Nose
very restrained, some apple, grasses, some honey, some apricot, minimal lemon, minimal caramel, some earth
    • Taste
green apple, honey, caramel, a little lemon, a little grapefruit, a bit of fresh wood in the finish, becomes slightly bitter at the back, a little pepper

  16. AnnEm scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A balanced young malt, which is suitable as a pleasing soup, but reveals a very tense inner life on closer inspection. I like the fact that the 2/3 red wine barrel influence is very cleverly integrated, so that their influence is never overpowering, but instead a stimulating interplay of sour-sour-spicy moments and vanilla-sweet-creamy impressions is created, with the always very clear fruit alternates again and again between light windfalls and grapes. It's great how harmoniously these two sides combine to create a harmonious overall impression.
    • Nose
      86 86
Crunchy, fruity young wine. Lively, bright fruit. Modeling clay, plus a few pencil shavings. Red pepper. Also a few muted bitter aspects. Grain in a mashed form, in the direction of porridge. What I like a lot: it has an aromatic sweetness that is very subtle and natural, also slightly floral. After a little longer standing, paradise apples and white chocolate-coated grapes come to mind. From there I come back to apple cider, and then I'm back to the beginning, with the wine flavors. An appealing nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Fruity. Sweet raw dough. Tart fruit. Then comes wood, which contains both vanilla and toasty aspects as well as more concise and spicy parts, which presumably come from the red wine barrels. A really full mouthfeel, but always smooth and fresh.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sparkling and juicy. The flow of saliva is stimulated. Lots of apple and pear fruit, with vanilla pudding. Then again red wine notes, which are - really nice - for me almost completely free of harsh tannins or unpleasant bitterness. Here, too, the focus is on the fruit. Finally, I feel a bit of European wood spice, but it really only has a subtle supportive effect and gives the Nc'nean a nice structure.

For me a very drinkable whisky in which the young age is not really noticeable. Well-made bottle and box which are very high quality. I like the philosophy behind the distillery and will definitely not become a "fanboy" just because the PLV is still okay here.

On the nose I have young wine with a citrus note and some honey sweetness, the aromas rise very elegantly from the glass and the alcohol note is only noticeable at the beginning but is immediately overtaken by fruit tones.

In the mouth, the whisky lies around the tongue in an oily, flattering manner and the young, powerful nuances come through well! A little dry. There is powdered sugar, vanilla, honey, star fruit, lemon zest, unripe pear and again that wine aroma ... very good for such a young whisky!

In the finish, the aromas unfortunately do not stay that long, but warmly it says goodbye in the throat and a sweetness remains in the mouth

Great whisky that doesn't need to hide despite its young age ... I think my bottle won't last long :-)

    Pomelo

You'd almost think it is crazy busy at Nc’nean, as their third batch is already sold out. But of course you must keep in mind that every batch is only 5.040 bottles strong. And then things can go quickly indeed. I almost missed out on getting a couple of bottles from this third batch myself.

It’s really all about nuances. With such small batches you do indeed get very small differences. On the nose this is again wonderfully sweet and round with a small prickle of white pepper. Lovely, flowery honey, sweet malt, caramel, nougat and lots of citrus fruit. Think pomelo and lime. Mint in the background. This is again very similar to the first batch which I found very nice and even better than batch two.

Nicely creamy and fruity on the palate, while a prickle of wood shavings manifests itself here nicely. Nuts, citrus, sweet malt. Playful and fresh.

Medium long, warm and very pleasant finish on citrus fruits and nuts.

The kind of malt I really like. Young but very flavorful, playful yet mature and wonderfully affordable. I am a fan!

Not quite round for my taste, but not really bad either. The wine note is not well integrated for my taste, but rather stands on its own. Overall rather difficult to describe, in my opinion. Interesting as a sample, but nothing for me to enjoy in the evening. You don't necessarily notice his young age.
    • Nose
      82 82
A bit flat on the nose overall. Wine note present, slightly sweet, but otherwise I don't smell very much here. Maybe a very light, sour apple note.
    • Taste
      84 84
Sweetness and bitterness mix. Hazelnut with skin and a slight citrus note are added. Present wine barrel note. Too present for me and not the greatest wine barrel for my taste. Objectively not bad, but personally not particularly appealing to me. I have to admit, I find it interesting.
    • Finish
      83 83
Rather short, slightly sweet. Bitterness and citrus notes shake hands again and then disappear again quite quickly.

Not much different from Batch 1. For 3 years awesome, tasty and easy drinking, you don't feel any youth, but a little lack of maturity. But I think this will be a great malt.
    • Nose
really nice and fruity. Youthful but not young. Melon, cherries, sweet and fruity
    • Taste
Nice start in the mouth. A little fruit, slightly sweet, pepper, a slight bitterness.
    • Finish
The finish is fresh and warm, mint! Grain, malt, hardly any fruit, a subtle bitter sweet finish.

    • Nose
Fresh, sweet, citrus fruits, the wine barrel clearly comes through, very nice.
    • Taste
Slightly spicy, sweet peach, citrus note, the wine note in the background ... all very pleasant.
    • Finish
Short to medium long, fresh, light spice, sweet aftertaste.

I'm a little torn as to whether I really like this whisky. Maybe I promised myself more because of one or the other gushing review. It has a lot of Japanese echoes to me. The crowbar was not used here, but tweezers. The aromas in the nose are very subtle. A hint of citrus fruits, apple blossoms and milk chocolate can be seen. Personally, too little happens to me in my mouth. At least there is no metal to taste, which can happen with such young whiskys. With Wohlowollen I can sense a touch of mirabelle plum and black tea with a dash of milk.
The finish disappeared so quickly that I can't think of anything to do with it. I can neither recognize the wood that is so often cited in the mouth nor in the finish.
Conclusion: if you are into exceptional Scottish whiskys, you have access. If you prefer it classic, with a little thump, hands off!
