Retail price in Japan is 8130 yen + tax, so about 70 Euro.
Not sure why some shops need to sell at 600 Euro...

What a surprise this is. One of the best young whiskies I've ever tried and a very good single malt regardless of age.
    • Nose
Malty with some gentle, earthy wood smoke and an inviting minerality. I'm not sure how it is possible that a three year old malt from Japan reminds me of Springbank. Soft notes of vanilla extract, but also some caramel-glazed apples. Touches of tobacco and menthol too, and just a whisper of apricots.
    • Taste
Lovely oily mouthfeel and a sweet arrival. Touches of cotton candy and burlap, as well as black pepper. The Springbank comparison holds up. Gentle, earthy smoke with some tobacco. Wet pebbles too. Finally some fruity notes (citrus) and smoked barley husks.
    • Finish
      Long, malty and earthy.

French fries with vinegar to start, earth, hay, some beetroot, dark chocolate.
Gradually citrus zest, plum, dried dates,
Hay, strong sweet and salted roasted hazelnuts, new leather. Pepper.
Lightly burnt cinnamon with smoke. Getting a bit sticky sweet towards the end.
      Sweet hay from emptied glass.
    • Taste

Fresh fruits like orange, peach, pear with tiny bit of salt, lemon zest, pepper, and get a bit too spicy that you can't hold it in your mouth for long. Very peppery when you swallow it.
    • Finish
      85 85
Pepper spiciness for several seconds, pear jam leftover, sweet wood. Woody note lingering without the sweet flavour, tiny bit of  tannin and mostly woody and earthy bitterness. The hitback after several minutes is nice though.

Well, after some overwhelming reviews been posted by experts I could not wait to try it. It is beautiful indeed, and while it is still young a bit, the complexity and precision it's been made with is exemplary.

I think 87 is a fair score, and great for a 3 year old.

Savoury upfront. Dry oaky vanilla. Seasoned soya meatballs, caramel-like sweetness, which is nicely integrated. After you read it, you can sense the mustardy note but only with a bit of imagination.

Peat, hickory smoke, iodine, (as touch-and-go) apples and some orchard fruits. Something earthy like mushrooms. Salty note. Really different, no way I would have said it is 55.5% ABV.

Water brings out a leafy/vegetal component, and light citrusy smell.

Palate is more powerful than nose. Thai curry, ginger and some more heat, so it is like galangal, and some pepper, but it is amazing how well they integrated this 'heat' in here. Mouthcoating, no harsh alcohol, oaky dryness.

Water shows mushrooms, a bit of more toffee.
    • Finish

Nice, pretty finish, which I would say medium+. Some more peat smoke, cured meat hint, and green walnuts.

Yes it is still young, but particularly well made genuine Japanese new generation stuff.

@maltaholic: Well, Dekanta ALWAYS sells bottles at the original price multiplicated by 10 (even when you still find them elsewhere at a good price). That's a shop for stupid rich people.

    Appearance: Pale to medium amber.

Nose: Light smoke, stone fruit, malt cookies, ginger, caramel, light pineapple, raisins and vanilla.

Palate: Very sweet, with caramel, honey, vanilla and spices. Light banana.

Finish: Honey, vanilla, caramel, pepper, cinnamon.

With Water: A bit helps. More smoke comes out, malt sugar. Gets softer and even sweeter.

Overall: Young and very sweet, with nice spices and vanilla notes. This definitely shows potential with its rather exceptional spiciness. Of course, the fan boys are howling in delight by now. This is not fantastic yet, but maybe it will be someday.
