Hyper atypical: behind a freshness and sweetness maltesque my faith very traditional, spread very unusual scents, sometimes evoking a finish with rum, sometimes a gin. Very vegetal. On the palate, very young, lively with a very long finish, salty, marine and vegetal notes not super nice, tenacious. Very honestly, I would not have guessed that seaweed had been in the bottle! A completely experimental dram, which I am very happy to have tested. But from a purely taste point of view, the initial surprise passed, it lacks this feeling of satisfaction once the sip swallowed. Enthusiasm 3/5

In fact, the plant inside the bottle is called Elodea (german: Wasserpest), a freshwater plant. I think the impact of Elodea is more related to the colour than to the taste.

Overall a tasty young Islay Whisky.

Tastes like young independent Lagavulin, could very well be with good connections and/or long-running contracts. Does not taste like Laphi or Caol Ila. But I am talking about a bottling from ca. 2016 so I'd need to pop my new one open first to confirm.

    looks bizarre, tastes ok
    • Nose
sweet, dry smoke and peat, bricks, slug, lollipop, smell of sea rot, boiled algae, roasted chestnuts, vomit, sardines, lime, apricot yogurt
    • Taste
      sweet, smoke, vegetables
    • Finish
      shorter, weaker smoke, algae?

this is simply a good whisky, don't understand the low points, but then again...never argue about taste. It's a very good young peated whisky with a very long lasting taste, it's just my kind of whisky i like.

Young, strong peaty whiskey. The color is grass green, but the seaweed does not affect the taste. Still tasty whiskey.

Yeah, this lived up to it’s bad reputation, I’d actually choose to describe it as stinky. That said there were some pleasant young Laphroaig notes on the palate so it was not all bad, just a pity they had to go and chuck a piece of seaweed in there. In all I think this was intended to be purely a curiosity and it served that purpose.
N.B. Could not pick the colour from the scale properly, this was yellow with a tinge of green.

    • Nose
Stinky. Brine. Medicinal peat. All those rotting smells when there’s a low tide on a sunny day. Sea weed. Pickled fish. Cleaning grit. Lots of green herbal notes. Lime candies.
    • Taste
Mineral peat. Brine. Shortbread. Dried fish. Seafood. Quite soft tasting actually, like a young Laphroaig, not half as bad as the nose.
    • Finish
Long. Mineral peat. A kind of rich sweet note that doesn’t fit in. The pickled fish and rotting maritime notes are back. Something quite unsettling and nauseating.

Interesting thing, even though I'm not a fan of seaweed, this saddled me
    • Nose
Without water: Strongly smoked - it's such a smoke from wet wood, it smells like smoked meat, sea tones, woodiness and spices Peat recedes with water, and on the contrary, it is more earthy, iodine, salty and mint
    • Taste
The taste is beginning to feel quite a bit of seaweed, of course in combination with peat, wood, salt and alcohol
    • Finish
In the reverberation of peat, fire, wood, spice and, of course, alcohol

    It is a public secret
that this is in fact 6 years old Laphroaig (despite many rumours that it would
in fact be Lagavulin). Around 40 EUR. Not great, but certainly better than
expected. If you get past the crazy colour, that is.
    • Nose
      The nose starts on a
lot of, well, celp! And peat, obviously. Oyster sap. Midly salty. Underneath
lurks sweetness in the shape of apple and maybe even some sugared lime. This is
not even half bad. Nice balance.
    • Taste
      It is quite oily and
peaty on the palate. Mighty salty too. Brackish, even. Black pepper and lemon
juice. Midpalate it turns sweet on coconut and cocoa, no kidding! And yes, the
seaweed can be found in the taste. Nice smokiness. Quite pleasant and warm.
    • Finish
      The finish is long
and spicy with loads of salt at the death.

Blind tasting of a sample. Note that I very rarely use the term seaweed in my notes, but now I did. I.e. even when tasting it blind this note is very apparent.
Didn't include a colour as green isn't in the list...
    • Nose
Peat smoke, citrus, seaweed, toffee, salt, vanilla, dark chocolate, peach and limestone. With water a little wet clay.
    • Taste
Peat, citrus, caramel, sea salt, grapefruit, vanilla and a light spiciness.
    • Finish
      Peat smoke and caramel.
