Vigilant, fruity, sweet and creamy, maybe a little greasy and tannic. 22.5-22.5-22.5-22.5

Sample, didn't have time to really give it a chance but to me it was lots of cask and not much spirit. Vanilla sweet and a bit salmiak on the nose. Not to punchy despite the ABV. The taste was not very complex. Allspice. The finish was a tad bitter. Dry, quite long. I got the feeling that it was to a bit over-matured but still drinkable and not off.

Surprised by such high average ratings. Alcohol is poorly integrated. Even with the addition of a couple of drops of water, the whisky remains difficult on the nose and on the palate. There are a lot of astringent tannins. In general, this is a good malt and my rating is 88 but not 90+.

C: A sweet vegetal funky malt that trumps Adelphi’s excellent Glen Grant by one.

Rather tasty. Somewhat atypical, really Speyside-y Mortlach that drinks more like an Imperial. 7+/10, nothing mindblowing but a great drop and quite old school. RRP £540...
    • Nose
Still quite punchy. A bit waxy and dusty, old books, lots of fruits, orange fruit gums, dried apricots, quite apple-y, maybe a bit of bacon grease. One caper, pickled strawberries. Slightly cheesy with time.
    • Taste
Neat, again punchy. Added a little water. Again quite fruity here, sweet up front, slight onion-y herbaciousness, thyme, wine gums, orange fruit pastilles. Later it clearly becomes Moroccan tagine, with a salty, slightly hot finish.

On the nose classic Mortlach notes.
Alcohol is little punchy on the nose. There's bitterness from the oak on the palate. Finish is mid - long. Overall 7/10.
