Whisky Reviews for Glenburgie 1990 GM

The nose is very complex and, above all, incredibly voluminous. Lovely!

The taste is demanding and complex and gives full throttle from the first second. The finish is very long.

What can I say; the whisky is great, but also very expensive ...

The nose starts with mint, leather and beetroot. Everything stocky with an old library and a touch of electronics (smell of electronic parts in the computer) and coffee. With a little time, clear sherry and fruit aromas come through. The sherry looks nutty (pistachio and cashew), even if sweetness flashes through here and there.

The fruits are difficult to differentiate because they are overlaid by a maggi scent. Forest berries, raisins and blackberries prevail most.

The sweetness differentiates itself over time and splits into caramel and tree sap. Rose oil and honey wax are added. Very nice trip!

At the end there are clear tannins, liquorice and Hartz.

The mouth starts with a veritable firework of different impressions: cooked forest berries, molasses, dark chocolate, raisins and espresso.

Hardly alcoholic, nothing at all that could remind you of missing notes. The bitterness is only noticeable at the end (paired with leather squid and minimal mint).

A long finale with liquorice and little bitterness considering the age. Very balanced!

For me an outstanding malt and one of the best sherry malts that I have been able to try in a long time. The price is of course exorbitantly high, but I feel reminded of old sherry malts from better whisky times. Insanely beautiful nose full of plum wine, dry sherry, dark fruits, roasted nuts and liquid caramel. Very complex, changeable, maybe a little lemon balm and pine needles. Damp wood. In the mouth, then licorice, brown unrefined sugar, wonderfully dried oranges and cardamom. Yes, these associations of Christmas spices are fantastic, overall very spicy and not drowned in sherry, fruit cake, the oak and the age are noticeable and you become venerable. The mouthfeel is just gorgeous oily. Forever long in the finisch, warming with a hint of clove and black pepper, plus lots of chocolate. Extremely good bottling, I'm still overwhelmed. Actually reminds me of good old Macallan times with the orange. My highlight of the young year. 94 points

Absolutely gorgeous Sherry nose of the highest class. Full on yet the Sherry is integrated, all is there, no dry coke dram. Deep as much older drams. Nutty rancio, dark fruits (maraschino cherry, raisins, prunes), Rumtopf, cristallized orange in Christmas Cake, discrete spice, licorice, marzipan, Vintage Port, old wood. 92++

Very good indeed but nothing extra ordinary in here - especially considering the price. Quite oldschool sherry profile with lots of chocolates and nice tannins but we have already been there with lower pricetags haven't we?
Too flat and predictible for my taste. Still high quality is not questionable.

A stunning sherried whisky from the absolute top shelf.

Amazing nose. Orange oils, tobacco pouch, old worn leather, dried fruits, dried apricots, dates, dusty wooden cabinet, honey, a bit of cloves and nutmeg, furniture polish, molasses, honey glazed walnuts, tiny note of mint leaves, prunes.
    • Taste
      93 93
Not as sweet as expected, quite dry and citric, alcohol level is really good, strong and warm with light pepper, but comes down and is really smooth. Only a bit low on sweetness. Oaky dryness, tobacco leaves, light lemon oil, hay, liquorice root. Second chew is a bit fuller, a bit of cooked vegetable sweetness shows up, along with very light smoke, getting better. More juicy as well. Third chew brings light freshly grated ginger and a bit of chili pepper, freshly cracked black pepper, texture is thicker, more sweetness yet, steamed broccoli, dark chocolate, freshly brewed espresso.
    • Finish

Light smoke, dark chocolate, fresh espresso, liquorice root, very light toffee, extremely good finish. Enjoyed it for hours after.
