Good complexity, deep sherry wood, quite leathery - little less and my rating would have been higher - anyhow, overall pretty good
    • Nose
      90 90
Intense, dried fruits, dates, plums, figs, raisins, nuts, toffee, hint of leather and rubber, some engine oil, varnish, sherry wood, chocolate, cocoa, furniture polish - pretty good!
    • Taste
      90 90
Oily, creamy, liquorice, dark honey, coffee, good sweetness, cocoa, dried fruits, nutmeg, cloves, little earthy, hint of leather, sherry wood, pepper, spices - still good
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium long, warm, spices, herbs, woody, tannins, leathery

    Blind Tasting: February 2022
    • Nose
Fruity sweetness, foam banana, mature raisins, dried fruits, dark chocolate, and a nice cup of black tea.
    • Taste
Sun-ripened raisins, hazelnuts, dried fruits, mainly apricots and dates, dark honey, ground coffee bean, spicy, bitter oak-wood, toffee. A beautifully well balanced dram.
    • Finish
Long, with a fantastic balance of sweetness from honey, spiciness, dried fruits and the bitterness of coffee beans.

    Blind tasting
    • Nose
      90 90
Estery fruity, skumbanan and red apples.
Raisins and sweet sherry followed by leather.
      Second time tasting:
all of the above and some coffee.
    • Taste
      91 91
Warm sherry and some barley-honey sweetnes. Berries.
Sweer raisins and a hint of coffeebeans.
Taste like a lighter citrus flowery whisky matured on a first fill PX.
      Second time tasting:
Maybe a bit more tart this time but also more coffee and sherry this time. Raise the taste points to 91.
    • Finish
      89 89
Spicy oak and sweet sherry raisins and plums. Sugary sweetness that lasts.
Through and through a very balanced whisky.
      Second time tasting:
This time a bit more bitterness in the finish but still very very nice.

lately i find myself and others immediately gravitating towards extremely dark sherried whiskies. I enjoyed other sherried glenburgies from gm and when i saw the price of this, i was expecting a lot. opened one, drank it and something was off. drank it again after a couple of months and the sulfur really becomes quite apparent. this one unfortunately isn't for me. (and yes i bought a case...)

Nose - intense, beautiful ripe fruit of plum, apricots, dates, a bit of mint, all this is complemented by old leather, furniture paste, tobacco, beautiful dense aromas of spices.
Taste - dry, a lot of oak, great coffee, very thick, fruit from Christmas Eve compote.
Finish - long, slightly warming, ginger, dry, dark chocolate, cloves, leather and tobacco very pleasant.

From a fresh bottle I emptied over couple of weeks
Has a slightly off putting perfumy taste
If you enjoy liquid incense go for it
Mouthfeel, alcohol integration are great though

Sweet, luscious, looks like a PX cask at first, but then completely changes the profile. Very multifaceted, prickly, wave-like changing the palette.
    • Nose
      92 92
First, Georgian grape marshmallow, dryness and acetone, a dried bouquet of tea roses long forgotten in a vase, black tea brew. Prunes, raisins, oak bitterness, tobacco leaf, old leather briefcase.
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is extremely dry, notes of cognac and dried apricot, dark raisins and dried prunes, fresh grape leaves, tart, astringent, but seemed a little watery to me.
    • Finish
      91 91
Sweet, distinct sherry, marshmallow, raisins, tobacco leaf, dryness, paint.

Had as a part of an old and rare lineup.

One of these bottlings that could be any distillery… Mr Glenburgie himself couldn’t pick this out blind.

I found it way over sherried and even sulphured. People be trippin over the colour of this thing.

Very good indeed but nothing extra ordinary in here - especially considering the price. Quite oldschool sherry profile with lots of chocolates and nice tannins but we have already been there with lower pricetags haven't we?
Too flat and predictible for my taste. Still high quality is not questionable.

A stunning sherried whisky from the absolute top shelf.

Amazing nose. Orange oils, tobacco pouch, old worn leather, dried fruits, dried apricots, dates, dusty wooden cabinet, honey, a bit of cloves and nutmeg, furniture polish, molasses, honey glazed walnuts, tiny note of mint leaves, prunes.
    • Taste
      93 93
Not as sweet as expected, quite dry and citric, alcohol level is really good, strong and warm with light pepper, but comes down and is really smooth. Only a bit low on sweetness. Oaky dryness, tobacco leaves, light lemon oil, hay, liquorice root. Second chew is a bit fuller, a bit of cooked vegetable sweetness shows up, along with very light smoke, getting better. More juicy as well. Third chew brings light freshly grated ginger and a bit of chili pepper, freshly cracked black pepper, texture is thicker, more sweetness yet, steamed broccoli, dark chocolate, freshly brewed espresso.
    • Finish
      95 95
Light smoke, dark chocolate, fresh espresso, liquorice root, very light toffee, extremely good finish. Enjoyed it for hours after.

Absolutely gorgeous Sherry nose of the highest class. Full on yet the Sherry is integrated, all is there, no dry coke dram. Deep as much older drams. Nutty rancio, dark fruits (maraschino cherry, raisins, prunes), Rumtopf, cristallized orange in Christmas Cake, discrete spice, licorice, marzipan, Vintage Port, old wood. 92++

The nose is very complex and, above all, incredibly voluminous. Lovely!

The taste is demanding and complex and gives full throttle from the first second. The finish is very long.

What can I say; the whisky is great, but also very expensive ...
    • Nose
      94 94
The nose starts with mint, leather and beetroot. Everything stocky with an old library and a touch of electronics (smell of electronic parts in the computer) and coffee. With a little time, clear sherry and fruit aromas come through. The sherry looks nutty (pistachio and cashew), even if sweetness flashes through here and there.

The fruits are difficult to differentiate because they are overlaid by a maggi scent. Forest berries, raisins and blackberries prevail most.

The sweetness differentiates itself over time and splits into caramel and tree sap. Rose oil and honey wax are added. Very nice trip!

At the end there are clear tannins, liquorice and Hartz.
    • Taste
      93 93
The mouth starts with a veritable firework of different impressions: cooked forest berries, molasses, dark chocolate, raisins and espresso.

Hardly alcoholic, nothing at all that could remind you of missing notes. The bitterness is only noticeable at the end (paired with leather squid and minimal mint).
    • Finish
      93 93
A long finale with liquorice and little bitterness considering the age. Very balanced!

For me an outstanding malt and one of the best sherry malts that I have been able to try in a long time. The price is of course exorbitantly high, but I feel reminded of old sherry malts from better whisky times. Insanely beautiful nose full of plum wine, dry sherry, dark fruits, roasted nuts and liquid caramel. Very complex, changeable, maybe a little lemon balm and pine needles. Damp wood. In the mouth, then licorice, brown unrefined sugar, wonderfully dried oranges and cardamom. Yes, these associations of Christmas spices are fantastic, overall very spicy and not drowned in sherry, fruit cake, the oak and the age are noticeable and you become venerable. The mouthfeel is just gorgeous oily. Forever long in the finisch, warming with a hint of clove and black pepper, plus lots of chocolate. Extremely good bottling, I'm still overwhelmed. Actually reminds me of good old Macallan times with the orange. My highlight of the young year. 94 points
