N: The nose is rather closed off. Yes, there´s the typical sweet sherry notes but that´s about it

M: Here again, rather a closed off entry. I guess I´ll give it some water for once...

Sadly the water doesn´t really change that much... We´ll see on another evening then

    Simple, intense sherry dram.
    • Nose
A little alcohol tingles the nose slightly. Even before the first sip, it smells like a thick and oily dram. Heavy dark sweetness. Pickled plums.
After the first sip, milk chocolate is added.
    • Taste
Strong but not too spicy start. Taste matches the nose. Sweet plums. Caramel. Overall rather smooth impression.
    • Finish
      Raisins. Medium length.

After a stunning sample of the CA Aberlour for Taiwan https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/149442/aberlour-08-year-old-ca (90 points) this time a big bottle of the most recent one.

Nose wise this seems to be from the same family which leads me to think that the WB #149422 was finshed, too. Though this one here is not nearly as good. The nose is its best feature, with a very modern oloroso profile, but taste and finish seem not to fit the shoe size. This is angrier, i.e. more spicy and less layered and less subtle. It turns slightly bitter, maybe even woody. Hm, tanniny? It has nothing to do with a classic straight sherry maturation of old time, so instead of an olde English Club with its complex atmoshere, you are rather in a barren modern concrete building with seating furniture of the same material.
I am increasingly dissapointed with the Cadenhead finishes of late - just the taste buds of an old fart, I guess. But I hope everyone else will enjoy...

    PS: not a swimmer inho.

Fantastic, flawless sherry barrel. The distillate is not complex, but the fruity, powdered sugar notes are fun.

A good example of what a top barrel can do from a simple whisky.
