  1. SwiftyMcVeigh scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Very tasty whisky, easy drinking, but medium-complex. Good for the price.
    • Nose
      88 88
Sweet fruit compote and honey. Grapefruit. Behind it a salty-chalky-maritime note, herbs and a hint of peat smoke. Spices and bourbon vanilla. Overall very nicely rounded.
    • Taste
      87 87
Creamy and tasty. Tart herbs alternate with sweet, light-colored fruits. Again the grapefruit. Vanilla pods, a touch of pepper.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length. Bourbon vanilla, oak seasoning, white chocolate. The fruitiness subsides and a minimal smoky note remains.

Nothing filigree, more like a club, but a tasty one.

    Notes from a blind tasting.

Oha, would have put that in Speyside and given it at least five years less. But also...
    • Nose
      85 85
2.5 tons of vanilla, some yellow fruits, very intense and engaging nose, but also very linear. With heat it becomes mineral, the fruits ferment. A hint of dark caramel.
    • Taste
      87 87
Quite powerfully sparkling attack, very pleasant dark notes, caramel, slightly burnt, tart herbs form a basis, pickled pears in the background, the dark notes clearly set the tone.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is quite long, remains dark and a slight bitterness resonates.

    blind tasting.

Pure: very alcoholic and aggressive, hardly any other aromas can spread.

With water: much more pleasant, but overall irrelevant.

Try it out during the 24th Cologne Stammtisch.
Surprisingly tender, but really tasty Bunnahabhain, maybe. the most elegant I've had so far. For Islay friends it is certainly too tender in parts.
    • Nose
Pecans, macadamia, hazelnut, toffee, vanilla, some malt, grasses, subtle peach
    • Taste
Wow, sweet, malt, ginger, fine salt, grass, pear, fine algae, green apple, kiwi, unusual for a bunna, softest wood smoke in the distance
    • Finish
Malt, honey, ginger, salt, pecans, medium length

    2021-07-15: beautiful summer whisky
    • Nose
      89 89
Fruit basket, fresh, pineapple, peach, raisins, possibly minimal smoke, nice, slightly sweet vanilla, some hay
    • Taste
      90 90
moderate, the typical gooseberry taste, no heat, something indefinable between pepper and light smoke, reminiscent of Benromach 15, dusty biscuits, slightly sweetened cornflakes
    • Finish
      90 90

Well selected barrel! Nice classic and also varied ex-bourbon nose. But then unfortunately builds up something at the back. Still recommendable, I would think.
    • Nose
      88 88
Slightly maritime, light nut aroma and sour currants and citrus, all of which is accompanied by a subtle pungent alcohol. This alcoholic stinging is quickly replaced by a little pepper. In addition, fruity aromas of ripe pears, apples and bananas with creamy vanilla pudding and sweet pastries. Everything accompanied by fresh woody aromas.
    • Taste
      86 86
Slightly peppery tingling, rather somewhat dominant oak spice. Then the fruits come out, banana, pear. Again slightly sour again. In addition, there is something exotic pineapple and melon.
On the palate then also rather malty with roasted nuts.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long finish, pepper, spicy, toffee, slightly chili-hot, it is still in the mouth, which in turn pushes the fruit back a little. At the end it looks a bit bitter and bitter.

Really interesting mixture of young fruitiness and pronounced, older-looking barrel notes. From the back, however, I find it a bit bitter and biting.
    • Nose
      87 87
Lots of fruit, lots of wood on the nose. Sour-fruity-sugary: white gummy bears, physalis, jelly bananas, lemon drops with menthol. Behind it a lot of creamy vanilla, freshly cut herbs and something yeasty / mashy. Very fresh with a nice creamy, caramel-like bourbon wood influence. Very good barrel.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sour tingling, almost like a crunchy crémant. Again banana and pineapple, sweetened vanilla cream, then a bitter touch: grapefruit, pear peel, dry-mineral-chalky white wine.
    • Finish
      84 84
Peppery, tingling, hot ginger, slightly medicinal bitterness (aspirin, quinine), the aromas unfortunately go a little behind. What remains are primarily Schweppes (bitter lemon), white pepper and lime zest.

Exciting, something special, delicious. Time and warmth are good for him.
    • Nose
Nice nutty, cream caramel, sweetened banana, ripe apples, herbs, some wood, slightly maritime touch, vanilla
    • Taste
Mouth-filling interplay of sweetness and herbs, oak, slightly peppery, vanilla, nuts, caramel, some light ripe fruits.
      Alcohol involved great.

  21. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

An intense, light fruity and slightly maritime single cask bottling from Bunnahabhain. The 15 years of maturation in a refill barrel leave enough room for the typical distillery character, but give the whisky great light fruit notes, which, together with properly warming spices and caramel tones, result in a rounded pleasure experience. A rich, powerful Islay dram, which is also well tolerated by water.

    • Nose
Fruity start on the nose with apples, yellow pears and citrus fruits. Accompanied by toffee, ginger and a touch of white pepper. Slightly maritime and seaweed-like notes with burnt peanut in the background.
    • Taste
The sweetness and fruits are reflected on the palate, with additional notes of grapefruit, vanilla and burnt caramel. This is accompanied by a distinct warmth of alcoholic spiciness and ginger. Sweet tones of malt sugar, creamy honey, a fine herbal note and very subtle dark chocolate linger towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is of medium length, creamy at first, but then becomes drier and slightly bitter with citrus peel, oak and a touch of roasted almonds.

With water: After the addition of water, it is much more maritime on the nose with earthy notes, citrus fruits and herbs. Sweet and fruity on the palate with pears and creamy honey, still warming and peppery with clear caramel tones as well as malt sugar. The finish is slightly shorter, creamy with honey, then much drier with oak spice, ginger and bitter citrus peel.

  22. Kalleholzbein scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

On the nose overripe fruits, bananas, sweet herbs paired with (flowers) meadow. Pleasant in the mouth, subtle bourbon, fruity, again sweet herbs, initially a bit thin, but then getting stronger. Short and intense in the finish.

Delicious whisky with a special character. I like it a lot, despite his youth and his somewhat brisk demeanor. As a whisky under € 100, certainly a good choice if you are into it.
