Quite complex in terms of flavors. It's a very good example of a successful modern "winesky" - TM of @HS305

Overall on par with Glenallachie 10 YO CS Batch 3 which I consider the best 10 YO CS I've tasted so far (3,5,6 and 7).

Dried flowers. Toast, Danish butter cookies. The smell of candy shop. If you kept sniffing, it was almost menthol. Besides menthol, it's some sweet and sour apple with peel. Fruit tea. After a week in the bottle, it became less mentholated, there were fresh berries, plums. Nosing rose from 86pts to 87pts.
    • Taste
      87 87
Mandarin orange juice with pith, cherry, mild pepper, the fruitiness was quite long-lasting. Some bitterness from citrus peel.
    • Finish
      86 86
Syrup, Szechuan numb chilli, sweet orange, cherry skin, grape seed, purple plum and some honey black tea.

  11. craide scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Great drinkable malt. For me it is not a malt that would set the bar particularly high, but the combination of the barrels is very successful and consistent.
    • Nose
      87 87
Soft, gentle start with coffee and roasted nuts. There are also fruity oranges, cherries and plums that mix with spices like cinnamon, gingerbread and marzipan. Some dried fruit after dates and raisins are slightly in the background. However, the different roasted aromas that appear again and again are a bit clearer. A little vanilla comes out with a malty honey sweetness.
    • Taste
      86 86
Pepper and oak spice ensure a tingling mouthfeel on the palate. The dark fruits of soft fruit, cherries and oranges provide a certain heaviness and depth. There is also a little sweet vanilla. The roasted notes are less here, but a little more chocolate and white coffee, which in turn makes the malt appear slightly bitter.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-long finish, light spiciness, a little pepper still ensure a slightly spicy mouthfeel. But fruits and sweetness also slide by here.
Looks round and at the end nice chocolate.

Vanilla, old wooden cabinet, shoe polish, hints of beries and raisins, hints of xmas spice, cooked fruits, jam, also some dried fruits, plums, dates, little nutty, milk chocolate - overall slightly artificial but not bad
    • Taste
      84 84
Punchy, oily, creamy, good sweetness, cherry, berries, little vanilla, spices, orange zest, little toffee, honey, chocolate

Exciting whisky with which you can discover a lot. Maybe a little too hot and a little out of round, but still very enjoyable.
    • Nose
tart, fruity sherry barrel notes, sweet, but also a little bit vinous, the red wine barrel also has its points, tasty, multi-layered, even if it sometimes seems a bit deliberate.
    • Taste
strong, peppery, sweet, warm, vinous and fruity, needs a little water.
    • Finish
Pepper here too first, still quite warm, then nice sweetness from the sherry and the wine barrel, slightly artificial, gummy bears.

  16. 67conrad67 scored this whisky 89 points Member Senior

Smell: initially according to the solvent tone, with a little air great red wine aromas, light wood glue note, throaty base tone, completely according to the red wine note, leather, raspberry in alcohol, cherry
Palate: fine, sweet bite on the palate, fresh acidity present, great balance and great interplay with perfectly integrated alcohol, lots of fire and warmth on the palate, rum pot and raisins with a slightly bitter touch, fine coffee notes, medium-sized. to lg. reverberation
Color: copper tone, medium Water's edge, of course
Conclusion: It's fun, because here the influences of the two finishes combine in the best way - red berries and freshness from the PN, sweetness and melt from the PX, all of which brought to the bottle at just under 54% at a snap rate - two thumbs up!

I have to go back to that. I remember him differently. Maybe the wrong day today.
It's definitely not bad ... but unfortunately didn't pick me up today.
    • Nose
      Colour:
      Red gold

      Nose:
Starts with marzipan and blood orange. Then it gets more and more sour. A bit of vinegar.
I'd rather leave it there ...
With a little time in the glass, the sweetness comes through better. Something like wild berries and leather. Then with more air, it becomes more sour again. Rhubarb, damp forest soil and musty leaves. The berry aroma is now much more sour. But there is still a certain nutty bitterness and red apple. A fine trace of pepper lies over everything.
    • Taste
Sweet start. Sweetened cherries and a nice, spicy herbal note. In the taste I find that vinous aromas clearly come through. Ne dry nutty and it has something Christmassy. In addition, it has something of a coniferous wood aroma that you inhale while infusing in the sauna. The leather and hints of tobacco are discreet. Mocha and pastries.
    • Finish
Medium length. Subliminal berry sweetness. Then dry wood and a sour citrus note. The colleague sneaks out with subtle bitterness.

Peppery. Dark grapes. After a few seconds a little oak seasoning. Pretty oily.
    • Finish

Great whisky for little money. Cheeseburgersoup and ralle1968 actually said everything. Great in taste, great in price :)

After repeated tastings and a direct comparison with the 2008 and 2009 Sinlge Cask, I increase my rating by one point to 90. Chapeau!

  22. Moses scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

I approached it with great reluctance and expected a lot less. Fortunately, I had a large sample from André, which brought me closer to this whisky than expected. Thank you very much for that. This also gave me enough dram and time to get to the bottom of the good reviews. In hindsight, a PLV looks at monsters. A lot of whisky for the money. Bravo.
    • Nose
Despite all the reluctance to see the data, the nose is an experience. With a blind tasting, I would have my problems with it. Everything is wonderfully ripe and built on brown sugar. Dark sherry berries and everything well interwoven with the wine notes. The grapes can be represented advantageously. Tip top nose and nicely made. Respect. You can always sniff it. Wow. I like it a lot.
    • Taste
Oh, now comes the 12 problem. Hence the price. He starts hot and peppery. Alcoholically a bit too pushy and teasing on the tongue, it is too powerful for me. The sharpness spreads everywhere. Is that just the youth from the barrel or is it also a badly integrated alcohol? More like both. It only gets better in the transition. It gets a little drier there, but it saves the delicious sweetness over into the finish. He just convinced me again.
    • Finish
Due to this intrusive but not bad nature, it has a long lasting effect and then lingers relatively warm on the palate. So if it weren't for the nose in first class, I wouldn't give 86 points. But all in all it is well done and I advise all bottle owners to drink at least empty over their shoulder before arriving at a fair judgment. A character that you won't forget in a hurry. Respect!

A very nice, fruity-spicy Glenallachie with an unusual barrel combination - successful.
    • Nose
      88 88
On the nose, a very fruity entry with dark berries, grapes, cherries and orange. Then some nuts, marzipan and chocolate follow. With water it becomes even sweeter and creamier.
    • Taste
      89 89
A full start, which in terms of taste keeps what the nose promises and also brings more spice and a certain chilli heat. A little water (you don't have to be careful) harmonizes the stormy start and brings an incredible sweetness and almost cognac-like wine notes with it. Very tasty from my point of view.
    • Finish
      87 87
In the finish it sounds quite balanced. Accented with a little more wood and very light bitter notes.

  30. Captain.Islay scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Clearly recognizable influence of red wine, herbal and spicy, PX sweetness stays in the background, a well-made and balanced cuvée that does not set new standards but is appealing and ideal for carefree enjoyment.

One of the few whiskys that my wife likes too. This means that it is very easy to drink (easy to drink), but not too complex / difficult. The wine barrel has left its mark very clearly.

      6th dram, light chocolate notes.

  32. tommy12 scored this whisky 70 points Expert Senior

great color, but strange smell of green paprika, also the same taste, the fruitiness of the Pinot Noir comes through pleasantly, but the positive taste impression is very restrained, overall unpleasant, one of the very few whiskys that I couldn't drink, never again.

  33. 2ndSip scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Quite fruity and sweet on the nose. The taste is fruity and fiery, then becomes drier.
If you like grape whisky, this is the right place for you.
Personally, by far my best Glenallachie I've had so far.
    [90 - 86 = extremely tasty --- get a second bottle, don't look at the prize]
    • Nose
      87 87
red, sweet grapes / blackberries are my main focus. Behind it sweet fruits (ripe apples and apricots, (blood) oranges), brown sugar.
The spice is there somehow, but remains rather restrained and subtle in the background.
Over time, floral-herbal notes that pass into fermenting yeast and a little malt.
Every now and then the alcohol sticks out.
    • Taste
      88 88
soft start, but a peppery spice immediately takes over the helm.
The red fruits (grapes / blackberries) are also back - the Pinot Noir influence is clearly visible. It gets dry very quickly, almost dusty.
A vanilla aroma comes into focus when you exhale through your nose - interesting.
With the second or third sip it becomes a little sweeter, the initially peppery flavor is brought down to a normal level. Nevertheless, a certain basic sharpness remains in the oral cavity.
The almost 54% are well integrated.
The sweetness turns into a "dry" chocolate (type: 60/65% cocoa content, but without drifting into a bitter note or even bitterness).
    • Finish
      85 85
the spice stays with the fruit for a long time, but then slowly fades.
It has a typical red wine finish with long-lasting tannins.

All in all, a delicious, fruity GlenAllachie with a lot of fire! Great price-performance ratio (67 €).

A lot of aroma on the nose: predominantly ripe fruits and dried fruits, immediately sweet cherries, some orange, spices (cinnamon, gingerbread), over time, increasingly vanilla, some bitter almond and a lot of alcohol.

Fire in the taste! Very strong, strong start, the taste delivers what the nose promises. In addition to the fruit and vanilla, there are milk coffee and milk chocolate. Little bitterness, absolutely pleasant. However, it is also clearly alcoholic, which is very dominant when you first taste it and somewhat suppresses the aromas. I usually prefer the power of cask strength, but in this case I would probably find the same flavor load with a little less percentage even better - at least after the first tasting.

Very long on the finish, the fruit fades over time, chocolate, vanilla, light oak and burning persist for a long time.

For me 88 to 89 points. If the alcohol were better integrated, there would be 1 to 2 points more. Maybe the time will bring it ...

At first clearly alcoholic nose. Then the aromas take over: sherry, dried figs, light orange aroma and a little vanilla and a little buttery.
    • Taste

Hot, but with well-integrated alcohol - no water! Chocolate and vanilla. Here too, sweet dried fruit. You think you can taste the wine barrel a little. In terms of taste, the dram could be older!

Nose: dirty red, very spicy. I smell tannins and fermenting stored apples.

Palate: Woooooow, what a start, what a spicyonado ... and in the eye of the tiger with a mélange of sweet raisins and dark red velvet wine, which dissolve in tannins and heavy sherry tones, then combine again to make some Kellog's cornflakes and some burnt caramel ...

Reverberation: ... to then pause for breakfast as a memory of fruit porridge and red grape juice. For a tasty little eternity.

One of the best drams of my whisky year. At an unbelievably good price-performance ratio.
