blended malt? I also bet on at least a portion of Tamdhu and/or Macallan, both of which would suit the orange note contained. However, the distillery notes are overlaid by the fruity-peppery refill sherry cask.
A good and interesting bottling that I enjoy drinking. But not a hype-worthy "unicorn malt".

Dominant raisins, "modern" sherry profile, rather fruity, not at all old-school leathery-dusty, behind that juicy oranges, a little spice, currants, allspice, star anise
    • Taste
      86 86
Not too powerful, but present at the beginning, clearly nutty, a little spicy, dried fruit, raisins, apricots, becomes pepperier with more and more sips.
    • Finish
      86 86
Sounds fruity with little oak, typical refill sherry, reminds me of one or the other non-overwooded (4th fill) Glenfarclas. In addition, however, orange again.

I must have gotten lost somewhere in this dram— the name said Christmas, but I wound up in summer. I did not pick up the spicy backbone that might have pointed me toward winter; instead, I followed a train of sweet summer fruits toward a vinegary-sweet salad and hints of burning candles. While I ended up in the wrong season, I thought this dram was incredible— undoubtedly a crowd-pleaser. It was rich, though not overpowering, and delightfully smooth and easy to drink. There were no sharp edges and no real off-notes that might deter even a novice to the world of scotch.

    Mental Image: Summer Fruit Salad
    • Nose
Fruit, wax, and salt. Big notes of dried fruit and candied apples with more subtle pomegranate and strawberries with a balsamic glaze. Hints of salinity, heather, and freshly extinguished candlewick.
    • Taste
Medium-bodied and incredibly well-rounded with fruit, wood, and subtle spice notes. Rich dried fruits, candied apples, pears, and persimmons. Subtle hints of a sweet balsamic glaze over juicy strawberries slowly moved toward chocolate and fig-stuffed pastries. Waxy at turns with burnt candlewick and berries.
    • Finish
Lingering notes of fruit and chocolate.

Last year’s Christmas Malt wasn’t exactly a hit at WF Towers [83]. This year of all the years – the ‘letting go’ one [WLP] – I randomly decide to bite on [a half-share of] this mystery blended malt. All part of the ‘letting my hair down’ program you see! Through the grapevine, we are told this is mainly made up of Macallan and Tamdhu.

N: A raisiny slightly woody nose with a little honey citrus.

T: Pretty much same again, it remains woody [grassy] and slightly sharp on the [raisin-y] malty citrusy side of life, in keeping with a number of G&M’s Speymalt’s in recent years.

F: Familiar whisky all-sorts that one might find from a 19yo [sherry refill] Glenlossie, Dailuaine – or indeed – Tamdhu.

C: A little edgy [a smidgen over?], this is a fine session malt. There’s nothing particularly outstanding to report, but competency is [as expected] high.

Very intense finish. Dried fruits, alcoholic, very strong and a little bit of wood
