  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A good entry level dram from a traditional distillery. It's a bit thin, but taste wise there is enough to discover. Despite that Glenfarclas matures (most of) their distillate in ex-sherry casks, don't expect a big sherry influence. The share of refill casks is likely to be quite big. Not that this would be bad.
    • Nose
      82 82
Distillate driven: fruity (pear, red apple), flowery (orange blossom), sugared (icing sugar), herbal (mint). Behind that, the wood has delivered a thick and creamy note (toasted coconut, honey), and more fruit (citrus).
    • Taste
      84 84
More influence from the wood than in the nose. There is more substance and depth. There is more fruit (citrus, apricot next to the less powerful orchard fruit), a richer taste (next to the honey, also toffee) a slight nuttiness (almond) and even a bit of tobacco.
    • Finish
      82 82
Short to medium: dried fruit (apricot, date), fresh fruit (orange fruit), marzipan, wood and a bit of tobacco.

Not very complex, and the 40 ABV a bit low, but easy to drink and nicely done.
Overall nice dram, good value for money.
    • Nose
      82 82
Sherry and malty, vanilla, nuts, ripe fruit
      Nice nose, light and easy
    • Taste
      83 83
Like the nose, very malty, fruity with ripped apples, oranges, a touch of butter(shortbread), raisins, then spices with pepper and a light touch of cinnamon
    • Finish
      81 81
Médium length, still malty and spicy, raisins, plums.

  4. Drum scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

There wasn't much for me to discover, I found him very thin overall and a few percent would certainly have done him good. I got it blind and guessed a wine finish but was wrong. Unfortunately, this Glenfarclas will not be a candidate for repurchase.
    • Nose
Sweet and sour notes that remind me of white wine. Bright fruits like pineapple and a light spicy note.
    • Taste
Dry and again white wine with sweet and sour tannins, malty with an alcoholic note.
    • Finish
Dry white wine notes, malty with a slightly oily mouthfeel, then it was gone.

  5. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The cheapest Glenfarclas from one of the few privately run distilleries in Scotland is fresh, voluminous and sherry-sweet.
Cask Type: 60% First Fill Oloroso and 40% Refill Sherry Cask

Good value 10 year old sherried whisky

    Nose
    Malty, sherried, toffee, spirit forward

    Taste
    sweet, honey, spicy, fruitcake

    Finish
Medium, spicy, some bitter oaky notes

Easy sipper, all flavour well integrated, not overpowered by the Sherry.

    • Nose
      74 74
Apple, sherry, raisins and honey with a touch of smoke
    • Taste
      72 72
Sweet and a bit watery with apple, sherry, toffee and oak with a nice smoky note
    • Finish
      75 75
Long and spicy with oak and some smoke

On the nose honey, flowers, malt, fruitiness. The taste: bittersweet and aftertaste has a bit of a burned pie but is not very long or strong and really disappointing. I wonder if leaving this one unfiltered would do any good.
