Aroma: medium intensity, wax, sweet and sour berries, raspberries, dried strawberries, viburnum jam, raisins, orange peel, cinnamon, citrus marmalade, oatmeal gingerbread with cinnamon, just a little bit of oak bark.
    Over time, wood becomes more.

Taste: bright, berry jam, raisins, prunes, cinnamon, sweet chili sauce, astringent grape skins with stones, lacquered furniture, chocolate.

Finish: raisins, prunes, orange liqueur and its peel, wood, varnish, just a little bit of cinnamon, chocolate, medium length.

    Score:87

Bottom line: a good batch, as usual powerful and for the money.

All flavors I like: sherry, leather and wood. It gets milder with a bit of water, but I don't think it's particularly well tolerated and it's quite strong on its own. I had to be careful and then decided on the pure version. But I quite like him.
    • Nose
Warm notes of sherry with a slight sweetness and aromas of freshly cut wood. Flowery detergent and organic flower soap give me the smell of a floral perfume. But I also find cut flowers, plum cake and oranges.
    • Taste
Sherry, leather and wood aromas literally explode in the mouth. A strong start! But it gets oily and oranges and oak come in.
    • Finish
Warm, leather and sherry with clear notes of wood. It becomes drier and over time turns into an oily feel.

Absolutely good representative of its "guild". Nice that the oloroso butts are not too dominant. I have a feeling it may be a bit younger than other A'bunadhs. I guess that's just the different cask mix, depending on the batch.

Color: Between light soy sauce and recreational vinegar.
Smell the fragrance: Vigorously produce miracles, standard heavy Shirley. No features, no flaws. Like the other barrels, it smells a little harsh. After putting it in the cup and waking up for a while, the alcohol smell dissipated a lot, and it began to smell like black preserved fruit and the sweet and greasy smell of rotten fruit.
Entrance: Sweet but restrained, not greasy. The acidity is well suppressed. The feeling is simple. Sherry barrels have all the flavors, but they are very mixed and restrained, so it is difficult to distinguish. No matter the small mouth or the big mouth, the alcohol on the tongue is very weak. I believe it is 43 degrees. But if you swallow a small mouthful, the breath will be very irritating to the sinuses (similarly, it will not be so irritating if you wake up for a while). A little bit of dark chocolate bitterness at the end.
After adding water, it smells a little Japanese-style European bag with the sweetness of sweet cream, and the sweetness in the mouth is more distinct (it seems that the mouth will become sweeter after adding water to most buckets?), it starts to have an oaky smell, and it starts to be mixed with sweetness. There is a plausible sense of herbal tea and Chinese medicine.
It is a cost-effective choice. There are no features and a little vague, but there are no shortcomings. The overall sense of alcohol is suppressed. Friends who like heavy sherry barrels can be used as food rations.
And it's a bit addicting to drink, and the last few days it gets faster and faster.

Unfortunately for the nose, it does not trigger me to experiance more of this dram. But then mouthfeel and finish are as I know the many A'bunadh I had before this batch. So overall a good whisky and price versus quality a good buy to my opinion.

The single malt a'bunadh has no age information. It is not chilled and filled in batches with their natural cask strength. The maturation takes place exclusively in Oloroso Sherry Butts.
    • Nose
Extremely mild despite the strength of the cask.
    • Taste
Full-bodied and creamy with oranges, black cherries, dried fruits and ginger. In addition, dark chocolate, sherry and oak notes.
    • Finish
Long lasting and intense. Sweet with exotic spices, dark chocolate and oak.

Wonderful aroma, finish as much as possible, until I am surprised with a slightly weaker taste compared to the whole. I missed a bit more sweetness and more expressive fruitiness, although it is not bad (I'm picking on ????).
A drop of water ... The aroma is even more blunt and pleasant, the taste ... here plus for a bit more sweetness and cherry aftertaste, the finish remains unchanged, but it seems more oaky at the end and slightly burning in the esophagus .... A moment after .. .. Strong, bitter chocolate !!! This is it!!!
    I can add 2 additional points ????
15 minutes after adding water .... There is a great additional 1 point To sum up: with water - 92.5 points !!!
    • Nose
      90 90
      intense, sweet chocolate, sherry,
    • Taste
      89 89
creamy, slightly bitter, raisins, again sherry, ginger, oak
    • Finish
      91 91
long, full, chocolate, cherry in liqueur, strongly warming tip, with the aftertaste of sweet debin

    Sherried, but not a monster
    • Nose

Needs time to open up. First of all the scent of oxidation tha came from Oloroso sherry. Raisin, some milk chocolate and cocoa, and also soft cream. Mild spices.
    • Taste
      85 85
Intensively sweet (milk chocolate, cherries) followed by sour, zesty lemon. Toasted nuts, cocoa (brought the bitterness), used leather. Quite integrated alcohol. Chewing brought out the cream and barley sugar.
    • Finish
      84 84
Long finish with caramel and mild cocoa bitterness

  15. maltaholic scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    Very intense color.
    Red gold.

After a while in the glass, a first attempt to capture the aroma:
Not overwhelmingly strong in the nose, despite the high percentage.
Clear sherry influence, dry berries, chocolate.

    Then violently in the mouth!
    Very strong!
    But also very aromatic.
The full broadside of wood and sherry ...
    My eyes are watering
    I think with joy.
    Yes, he has something ...

Its clearly they lost grip with this one, not a sherry monster anymore, not as dark in the color either.
    • Nose

      with water, some grass.
    • Taste

slightly dry, some sherry tones, vanilla, wet paper
    • Finish
      86 86
