Great dram! A bit closed but with a splash of water, everything starts to come out. The sweet flavours are well balanced and in harmony with both the flavour intensity, as well as the flavour richness. The ABV is a bit too much, considered this lovely light and sweet flavour profile. Beautiful style of whisky! Very promising for Bimber and UK's Single Malts.

A little unusual: the normal DNA is present, but the alcohol seems to jump up on you. Quite drying at the end. Worth a nip if you can find one open somewhere.
    • Nose
      85 85
Baked banana bread, sweet, the alcohol is well behaved on the nose.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite an oily mouth feel with a big punch of spirit creeping up on you - the taste is unusually quiet for a Bimber.
    • Finish
      84 84
A massive hit of alcohol that leaves a drying note, although I want to go back for more.

Aroma of spices - cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread, and salty notes. The taste is also a lot of gingerbread, vanilla, ginger and salt. In the finish, a lot of salty bread, notes of rum, sweet and oil. Ginger, salt, pepper, and vanilla pudding.

My first Bimber, and I wasn't dissapointed. An impressive dram for its age, full of flavour!

Starts on white chocolate, coconut and green olives, followed by some honey and zuppa inglese. It's a bit dusty on the nose (which I normally associate with older whisky) ,but also a vigrous hint of new make and juniper. An interesting nose for sure!
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet fruits, like candied citrus. Vanilla sugar, garden herbs and liquirice. Oily mouthfeel, and the coconut of the nose echoes on the palate.
    • Finish
      84 84
Sweet fruits again, with vanilla, garden herbs and cacao. Turns sharper with salmiak liquorice and Jawbreakers (the sour lemon flavoured chewing gum from my youth). A certain dustiness lingers.

  10. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

With Bimber I had a very important question to be answered: hype or actual quality? The prices that are being asked (on the secondary market) and the speed of which these bottles sell out is nothing short of ridiculous. So I was rather excited to finally taste an expression.
    • Nose
Initially this appears to be older than it actually is, after a while more youthful flavors appear. It finally developed to a very balanced and tasteful nose! Alcoholic integration after such a short maturation is insanely good. Really impressive. There’s some kind of mustiness to it. The nose gives me Wilhelmina pepermint, coconut, dried green herbs, licorice and pear peel. It’s may be young, but it’s also rather complex already.
    • Taste
A very friendly palate. It’s dangerously well drinkable despite of it’s almost 60% ABV. I get salmiak, some fresh citrus fruit and some orchard fruits. Balanced and again alcohol is insanely well integrated.
    • Finish
Medium length finish. Licorice, quite a big hit of vanilla, again coconut but also it somehow reminds me of a candy from my younger years called ‘Jawbreakers’.

All together I’m happy to admit this is way more then just a hype. The quality, flavors and balance are there definitely. If you bought a bottle for it’s original release price you can consider yourself lucky!

A much more intense, oak forward single malt compared to the other Dutch release.
    • Nose
A whisper of nail varnish to start things off, followed by rich notes of orange marmalade, apple sauce sprinkled with cinnamon, nectarine and kiwi. Finally some buttery Werther's Original and milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Oily mouthfeel and touches of tobacco, fresh ginger and licorice, but also a whiff of nutmeg, meringue and caramel. A subtle note of tinned peaches and pineapple juice, and then finally some strong black tea.
    • Finish
Somewhat malty, but certainly also lingering spices. Finally a whisper of butterscotch.
